Get Your Day Started Right: Morning Car Line Reminders
Now that we are well into the school year we have a few updates and reminders to share about morning car rider procedures. Our goal is always to move the line quickly. Students need to be in the classroom, ready to start their day by 7:40. Our car rider line will end at 7:38.
A few updates:
At 7:38, our welcome sign will be flipped to show the car line has ended.
If the sign is flipped, you will need to park and walk your child in through the front door. Sign your child in so they can get a slip to let their teacher know have signed in. (Teachers take attendance at 7:40.)
Students must be dropped off through the car rider line, not in the side parking lot or the office (unless they are late).
Students who get out of their cars by the steps can go up the steps and enter the building through Door 5.
If your child gets breakfast at school please attempt to get to school by 7:30 so they have time to eat breakfast and be ready to start their day at 7:40.
Pro Tip: Typically if you come in around 7:20 to 7:30 there are fewer cars, so this would be a great time to drop off in the morning!
New to the Crestwood Crew
Welcome our new Receptionist, Penny Sobolewski!

Kids Heart Challenge Starts Monday
Kids Heart Challenge is HERE!
It’s time to CELEBRATE heart health with the Heart Heroes! Our school is kicking off Kids Heart Challenge on 2/5/2024! Get started NOW by clicking the link below or download the Kids Heart Challenge App!
Our students will feel good by doing good, knowing they made a difference for kids just like them! Here's what they need to do:
- Complete Finn’s Missions: learn TWO lifesaving skills as a family TONIGHT!
- Become a Heart Hero: Send emails/e-cards on the website or texts via the app to invite friends and family asking for support.
- Watch the official kick-off video below to get to know our Heart Heroes!
The AHA and NFL are working together to build a nation of lifesavers. We want all students, educators and families to learn the lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR. Each student who completes Finn’s Mission will earn an entry for two tickets to Super Bowl LIX in 2025 held in New Orleans!
Thank you so much for supporting our school and the American Heart Association!
Yearbooks Now on Sale
Yearbook Sales are open now! More information to come on 5th grade shoutouts soon. Use the button to place your order online.
Keep on Reading! Battle of the Books Going Strong
Battle of the Books kicks off for 4th and 5th graders next week! Each student is encouraged to read at least 2 books on this to prepare for their class reading competition. If a student wants to compete for grade level competition or district competition, they will want to read all the books to prepare. Reading these books can be done in many ways! Readers can read the books independently, listen to an audio book, or you can read it together as a family.

Upcoming Events
Valentine Card Exchange February 14th
Classes at Crestwood hold a Valentine Card Exchange each year on February 14th. This is a great opportunity for your child to wish their classmates well and practice written communication skills. Classroom teachers will send specific details out over Class Dojo and in Friday Folder newsletters.
As you plan, please remember that we are a food-free school, and no candy will be distributed. Small trinkets are acceptable, but we encourage you to keep it simple! If your family is in need of assistance obtaining cards, contact Family Resource Coordinator Jessica Fleischer (jessica.fleischer@oldham.kyschools.us), Counselor Danielle Hardy (danielle.hardy@oldham.kyschools.us), or your child's teacher.
Attendance Reminders
OCBE policy allows for 8 parent notes per child per year to excuse absences or tardies. Once a student is put on doctor note only status, excused absences will need to come from a physician or physician’s office. For students with exceptional circumstances, the district will continue to work individually with families to maximize instructional time while also respecting a student's outside treatment needs. Any sick doctor or parent notes can be sent to crestwoodoffice@oldham.kyschools.us.
Our school day begins at 7:40. We aim to end the car rider line by 7:38 to give students time to get to their rooms before the bell, but we will hold the door for any car in line at that time. If you arrive after the door has closed, please pull around to the front and walk your child into the office.

Personal Device Reminders
As many students were excited to share news of new tablets, phones, smartwatches, and other personal devices, this is a good time to review Oldham County School's personal device policy (linked below). Our top priority is to provide students with a positive learning environment. While electronics can often be helpful tools, they can also provide distraction during the school day.
The main points of our policy include:
- Personal electronic devices may only be used with the approval of the teacher.
- School devices may only be used for instructional purposes under the guidance of the teacher.
- Otherwise, devices must be turned off, not displayed, and not in use.
- Recording, capturing, or transmitting pictures of students or school employees without their permission is considered an invasion of privacy and will result in disciplinary actions.
- Students in violation of this policy will be given one reminder. They will then be required to give their device to an administrator who will return it at the end of the day or call a parent to retrieve it. Subsequent violations will be handled in accordance with discipline policies.

Our Family Resource Center and its Advisory Council are the key to assuring that collaborative community input and involvement occur in the planning, implementation, and oversight of the Center’s activities. The FRC Advisory Council helps the FRC to accomplish its mission.
