Class Placement Process/Parent Input for 2019 - 2020
- Each student's educational needs
- Equalizing the numbers of students in ALL classes
- Balancing the numbers of boys and girls
- Balancing the ability levels and needs of classes
- Family input
Requests for specific teachers will NOT be honored.
As mentioned in previous Beehive newsletters, beginning next school year, requests for Legacy teachers will not be honored. This decision was made for the following reasons:
- It is critical we have balanced classrooms for students. Assigning students to legacy teachers sometimes makes balancing very difficult.
- With growth at BCE, the new students cannot benefit.
- The oldest student in the family is not able to benefit.
We greatly appreciate your support in ensuring ALL students receive proper placement, which includes consideration of educational needs. We are a community of learners ensuring success for ALL.
Thank you!
Teacher of the Year - Keri Swanson
STAAR Testing
A few testing day reminders:
- If your child is testing, please arrive on time and do not plan on taking him/her out early for appointments.
- Water bottles/lunches cannot be delivered to testing rooms. Students will grab them on their way to lunch.
- It is best for students to leave cell phones and smart watches at home or they will be collected during testing.
- Sending a sweatshirt and dressing in comfy clothes is best.
- A hug and an "I love you" goes a long way on these days. Our students are already rock stars. We believe in them and I know you do too. We will do our best to keep the environment on campus stress free.
Attendance Zone Information
The School Attendance Zone Advisory Committee has spent weeks analyzing and interpreting demographic data, student enrollment trends and projections, and the results of our recent Thoughexchange, along with creating and evaluating a number of options for possible new school attendance zones. At this point in the process, the committee is pleased to share draft maps for community feedback. The committee would like input on two possible options for new middle school boundaries and two possible options for new elementary school boundaries.
It is important to note the proposals are unofficial, draft maps which have yet to be presented to the Lake Travis school board. We fully anticipate that the maps may need further revision based upon community feedback. The School Attendance Zone Advisory committee will review all feedback received to reevaluate options and meet district needs. Only one attendance zone map for elementary school boundaries and one attendance zone map for middle school boundaries will be presented to the school board in mid-April.
The map options can be accessed on the LTISD website via the School Attendance Zones icon at the top of the district homepage.
Volunteer of the Year - Mario Kauachi
Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Year, Mario Kauachi!! Mario has done everything from power washing our marquee to teaching Spanish as he reads to classes. He also currently leads a social group with some of our 5th grade boys, and is often on campus as a part of our Watch DOGS program.
He is the husband of our PTO president and supports our PTO in countless ways. He was very involved in our main fundraiser, Raise Craze, and even made the decorations that hung in our hallways. He built our playground Buddy Benches and is working on important playground renovations. He is a room parent and helps organize special classroom events for his two children. He is also often Bandit, our school mascot, and gives the best high fives.
Mario’s enthusiasm is contagious and his passion for children is evident in all he says and does. Thank you for everything you do for our Bobcats, Mario!!

PTO Purchase Spotlight
The 5th graders are busy preparing for the Science STAAR test and we are excited to be able to do what we can to help! The PTO has recently purchased new curriculum materials to help prepare for the exam, sponsored the fees for teachers to attend a Science STAAR workshop, and is bringing in the Trailblazer-Mobile Science Museum to BCE. Thanks for supporting the PTO so we can help to enhance the education of our students!
In addition, the PTO just helped to purchase 7 new wireless microphones systems for use around the school!
