Buniewicz Classroom News - 9/21
Mr. Buniewicz's 5th and 6th Grade Newsletter
First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their flexibility with the cancellation of the field trip to Flywheelers. Both the kids and I were disappointed to not be able to go. We will plan on going next year with the 4th and 6th grades. Since this year's 6th graders have already gone, they will, unfortunately, miss out on the opportunity to go again.
Some housekeeping notes -
- Friday folders went home today. The 5th graders did not get much work back due to a wonky week.
- Grades on Illuminate are updated. Most assignments have an attached file so that they can be accessed at home. Please have your student log in and see if anything needs to be redone or turned in. If you are having issues logging on to Illuminate, please let me know!
- Once again, if I am sending this to a wrong email or should send it to an additional email, please let me know and I can send it wherever it needs to go!
5th Grade - A Review of a Week of Learning!
Due to NWEA testing Monday and Tuesday, as well as a LINKS meeting on Thursday, 5th grade had a limited time with me this week. Due to this, there is going to be few assignments going home this week.
Language Arts - Because of the shortened week, the class did not have spelling this week. Instead, we read two stories from our books about teamwork. We had a writing assignment focusing on using evidence from the text using "quote sandwiches".
Social Studies - First, an apology. I'm sure the kids have been singing the Preamble song from School House rock daily. This week, we have listened to that song (a lot) and discussed each part of the preamble and its meaning. Once we worked on what it meant, we planned, directed, and shot our own version of the preamble! The video should be edited and uploaded sometime this weekend!
6th Grade - A Review of a Week of Learning!
Language Arts - This week, we have gotten settled down into a routine for Language Arts. Monday, we focused on Vocabulary. We read a story including the vocabulary word and worked on writing that included all the vocab words. The following days, we read two stories from our Literature books and working on quoting from the text using "Quote Sandwiches". Many students got this back and have the opportunity to revisit this. If they need help, please come in and ask me!
Social Studies - We are continuing to ask Geographic questions. We are going to first focus on Mackinac Island. Students have all chosen a building or structure that Mackinac Island needs. We are focusing on questions that will help us answer whether or not this structure is needed and if it is, where the best place to place it is.

Upcoming Next Week...
- Spelling - All students will have spelling next week. Most of the work will be done in class, but students will have to study their spelling words at home.
- 5th Preamble Quiz - 5th grade will have a quiz on the meaning of the preamble of the Constitution. I will announce what day next week we will have the quiz.
- Weekly Writing - All students will be expected to turn in one full page of writing about any topic by Thursday.
- Reading Goals - Our reading goals will have to be done by Friday, September 28th. We will have a celebration of sorts to celebrate our reading this month!
Miscellaneous Notes
- NWEA Testing - We will be taking our last NWEA test, Math, on Tuesday at 8:30 AM. We took our science test earlier due to a change of schedule
- Homework Help - Reminder that in addition to Homework Lab, I am available before and after school to help students! If students are stuck, they are free to call me. I am usually available to help!
- Illuminate - This year, I am including assignments attached to most assignments. If students need to redo an assignment, they can access and print it off of Illuminate.
- Spelling Lists - If students forget their list at home, there is a copy of the spelling list on my website. Students need to be know which list they have and make sure they have the right week. This information will be given to the students each Monday.
