Hi Hansen Students, Parents, and Families!

We have had an awesome first two days of school with students, and are so excited to welcome our Kindergarten friends on Tuesday! While there have been some transportation pieces that we are working through, students have arrived and departed these first two days with smiles, positive energy, and great enthusiasm.

Thank you to all of our Hansen families for your patience and support during our opening days, and we are truly off to a terrific start.

Please enjoy some of this week's highlights below...

Creating a Culture of Equity, Achievement, Inspiration, and Joy!

Welcome to our Kindergarten Students!

As noted above, we can not wait to welcome our Kindergartners to school on Tuesday! Kindergarten staff has been busy this week preparing classrooms, participating in professional learning, and meeting with families in preparation for this big day!

For our Kindergarten families, we will take great care of your children, and will have several adults present at morning drop-off to welcome them and assist them in coming in and knowing where to find their classrooms. While difficult, we do ask that parents/guardians not enter the building with their student, unless something has been pre-arranged with our staff. We look forward to getting to know all of our new friends!

Demographics Form and Handbook Sign-Off - Important!

ACTION REQUIRED: Please be on the lookout for an email from Mrs. Cavanagh with the subject line: Your Child's Name: Hansen School Demographics Information--Please Verify. When you see this email, please follow the link to verify and update your child's demographic information, to review the updated school handbook and sign off (or not) on several permissions that we are requesting.

We ask that you complete this task by Friday, September 9. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you!

REMINDER: School Hours

As a continued reminder, for the next two years, the Hansen will be the 'late' school, and will be operating under a different start/end time schedule than the JFK and Luce Schools. Students will be able to exit their vehicles and enter the building beginning at 8:50 a.m.

Class will begin at 9:10 a.m., and students arriving after this time will need to enter through the Main Entrance and will be signed in as tardy. Our dismissal time is 3:25 p.m. Those that will be picking their students up at the end of the day should arrive at our walker's pick-up location a few minutes prior to dismissal. Drop-off and pick-up locations and procedures will be shared below.

REMINDER: Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures and Locations

As mentioned above, student drop-off will begin each morning at 8:50 a.m. Please wait until adults on duty are present at drop-off prior to your child exiting your vehicle. We do a 'rolling drop-off' and ask that those driving their child to school join the car-line in the front driveway that is closest to Pecunit St., pulling down towards the stop sign located near the front playground. Staff will assist students exiting their cars, and when possible we ask those driving to remain in their vehicles. Please do not enter the circle closest to the building, as our buses will be using this area to unload students upon arrival.

During afternoon dismissal, those picking up their students should park their cars in a marked spot close to Pecunit St. or in the small lot off of Pecunit St. near the baseball field. If there are no spaces, we kindly ask that you please park on the side of the Galvin Middle School driveway or in their parking lot (located right next door to the Hansen). Please do not park in unmarked places along any part of the Hansen driveway or on Pecunit St., as buses will be arriving and exiting and we want to avoid families crossing in front of them.

Our walker's pick up is located at the double doors on the back side of the front blacktop (facing the Galvin Middle School). Students will be released to approved adults only, and we appreciate your understanding!

First CAPT Meeting on September 13 - All Are Welcome!

The first Hansen CAPT (Canton Association of Parents and Teachers) meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hansen Library. The CAPT is a wonderful organization of parents/guardians and staff that work together to provide programming, funding, and resources for our students and staff at the Hansen School.

Please consider coming to the first meeting of the year, and we look forward to seeing you!

Open House Updates

It was so nice to meet new students and families at our New Student Orientation, as well as see so many at our Kindergarten and Grade 1 Open House!

As a reminder, our Open House for Grades 2 - 5 will be on Wednesday, September 14 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Students and families will again have an opportunity to meet with teachers, see classrooms, and connect. We are encouraging those with last names beginning with A - L to visit during the 6:00 - 6:45 window, while those with last names beginning with M - Z to visit during the 6:45 - 7:30 window. If you have more than one classroom to visit, please visit during either/both window.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing all of our grade 2- 5 families on September 14!
