GCA Weekly Update

1/20/2023

Hello Spartan Community,

My hope is that this letter finds you and your family in a better place in 2023 than you were in 2022. If it is not, reflect on the circumstances you have control of and do what you can to change those things. A relationship you can reconcile, a habit that is causing problems, or an attitude on how you look at situations. Every hardship is valuable because it brings learning opportunities. Covid has taught us that. We have been evaluating cohorts through our PSAT scores for our students, and we do not see a dip in overall scores. We had 14 students qualify for National Merit Scholarships this year, twice as many as we have had in the past. We had a couple of years of hardship in Latin. We adjusted and have those students performing at a high level again. We are going to do the same thing in our science department. The bottom line is that we need not get stuck in the dot that is now and live for the line that is the hope for the future. For Spartan students, that future is bright.

How Can a Parent Help the School

We have a teacher appreciation PTO luncheon on Jan 25, 2023. If you would like to help with the luncheon, please click on the Sign-up Genius link to help in some way.

We need parents to help with Armageddon. Please put March 9th and/or 10th in your calendar to help at the school and enjoy a fun day(s) with our students.

2nd Semester Fees

The fees for second-semester classes have been added to accounts. Please go into the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to check for those fees.

Seniors - Have you taken care of all your fines/fees? What about any missing textbooks? Library books? Take care of this today to avoid the extra stress of not being able to graduate.

THRIVE

A Resource for most things High School and applying to College. Some things are slightly different for GCA as we do things differently from the rest of the district. One example is that GCA does not offer Dual Enrollment courses, IB (International Baccalaureate Program), or CTE (Career and Technical Education) courses. Check the site out when you have questions.

Mental Health Counselor

If you are concerned about your child’s mental health or need family support, please don’t hesitate to contact me at nicoleta.alfaro@gilbertschools.net.
