Building Emergent Literacy Skills in Speech and Language Therapy (014687)
October 23, 2019
Young children with speech and language disorders face heightened risks for lags in literacy development; therefore, it is crucial for speech-language pathologists to know how emergent literacy develops and how we can support our youngest learners in becoming skilled readers. This interactive session outlines the simple view of reading and provides you with essential targets (precursor skills), materials (books/activities), and procedures (EBPs) that you can easily incorporate into therapy sessions to support "reading" with your youngest students. Each participant will walk away with a print-rich book and interactive materials to immediately use with students! Register here.Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Foundations Team Training (014681)
December 9-10, 2019
This workshop series is designed for professionals working with students with complex communication needs (CCN) who need Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). During this two-day training, participants will feel empowered so that no matter which specific app, device, training, or technique presents itself, the team will feel they have the foundational knowledge needed to make decisions and plan interventions. This training emphasizes a "Learn, Try, Apply" approach:
LEARN: Teams will develop common background knowledge about AAC and learn a five-step process to organize and prioritize information related to Augmentative Communication decision making.
TRY: Teams will explore and practice successful intervention strategies.
APPLY: Teams will use homework, case studies, and reflection to support meaningful, multi-modal communication outcomes. A classroom core vocabulary wall display will be provided to each participant.
