# Year 5 Weekly Update

## Week 3

Thanks to all the parents who came for the meet the teacher evening on Tuesday. It was lovely to see you! If you couldn't attend the evening, the presentations will soon be available on the school website.

## Golden book for Year 5

Congratulations to the children below who received the golden book certificates this week!

## A brand new Learning Centre!

This week the children had the opportunity to visit the new learning centre. Book borrowing will not begin until next week but Mrs Lowe gave the children a tour of the new facility and they were able to explore the new books and reading areas. Everyone agreed that it looks fantastic!

## Mindfulness with Mr Conroy-Stocker

Today we were lucky enough to be visited by Tim Conroy-Stocker the ESF Educational Psychologist. Mr Conroy-Stocker taught us some useful strategies to help support our social and emotional skills. Please ask your child(ren) to share some with you.

## Maths

In the maths 'number' groups the children are exploring Place Value: recognising and ordering numbers up to a million and beyond. In 'strand' maths we are looking into identifying, describing, classifying and visualising properties of triangles, quadrilaterals and polyhedrons.

## Unit of Inquiry - Who We Are

Our central idea for this unit is:

Developing social and emotional skills may help us to learn better, get along with others and feel better about ourselves.

Each week we will be giving you some discussion points to use at home to check your child's understanding and to prepare them for next week's learning. This weeks are:

- What different parts of the brain are there? What are their jobs?

- What is stress? How does it affect your body?

- What ways or strategies do you know to de-stress?

## Homework this week

As your children are now in the upper school, they are expected to be completing 30-45 minutes of homework each night. This will be made up of: approx 15-20 minutes reading with an adult, 10-15 spelling work, and their weekly assigned task.

This week's homework:

For this weeks homework:

Strand Maths: The children are to solve a triangle problem solving activity.

Number Groups: Each number group has been given a specific set of tasks from their teachers to complete.

Both homework tasks are on one double sided sheet.
