Stanley Middle School
Week of November 29
Mask Wearing Optional Beginning November 29
The following information was sent to GCS families and staff on Wednesday, Nov. 24 -
Hello, parents and employees. As a follow-up to what we shared with you last week, the Board of Education has voted to amend its current practice of requiring people to wear a face covering/mask while inside a Gaston County Schools building.
Effective Monday, November 29, the wearing of a face covering/mask while inside one of our buildings will be optional. It is important to note that people may continue to wear a face covering/mask if they choose to do so.
In accordance with federal requirements for public transportation, please remember that students and drivers are still required to wear a face covering/mask while riding on a school bus or activity bus.
We will continue to follow the COVID-19 guidance provided to school districts that is outlined in the StrongSchoolsNC Public Health Toolkit (K-12). We encourage you to review the Toolkit as it provides information about what to do in the event of an exposure to COVID-19, quarantine measures that must be followed, and other related protocols. There are some circumstances, in accordance with the Toolkit guidance, when masks will be required such as when a person is showing symptoms, identified as a close contact, or allowed to return to school prior to the end of a quarantine period because the person tested negative for COVID-19.
Please know that we appreciate your continued support of our schools as we work together to navigate the effects of the ongoing pandemic. Our goal is to provide a productive in-person learning experience while adhering to current health-related procedures and guidelines. Should you have questions or concerns about your child’s school, please contact the school office.
EARLY DISMISSAL - Wednesday, December 15
All car riders need to be picked up by 12:40.
CAN FOOD DRIVE
The can food drive will be held from December 1 - December 15 at dismissal.
There will be designated locations in the main lobby for students to place their items before going to class.
Test to Stay
Any GCS staff member or student, who is a contact to a positive COVID-19 case at school, and has no symptoms is eligible to participate in Test to Stay. Test to Stay allows exposed students who stay symptom free and continually test negative on days 1, 3, 5, and 7 to remain in school for the instructional day only , instead of an at home quarantine.
If students are a contact, Nurse Martin will explain the details of the Test to Stay procedures and drive-up/parking logistics to parents when she calls for notification. She will also continue to remind parents of all options available regarding an exposure at school.
Parents and students will remain in their car for the entire testing process.
Students who are vaccinated with no symptoms will continue with the current procedures in place.
North Carolina STEM SCHOOL DESIGNATION
Additionally, we would like to make connections with parents who represent many careers. We are asking that our parents please complete the Google Form to help us build our Stanley STEM Network.
Thank you to those who have already completed the form. If you use STEM skills in anyway in your profession, we need you in one of many ways!
