Background
His theories are based on moral development, he believed that people pass through a series of predictable stages in their moral thinking. There are 3 levels and 6 stages
Morals
Beliefs about right and wrong behavior
Preconventional Level
Decisions are made according to consequences
Conventional Level
Decisions are based on social rules and expectations set by family and friends
Postconventional Level
Decisions are based on personal ethics concerning what is morally right
If we were the parent...
According to this theory, we all think it's important to teach children the difference between right and wrong through consequences so they learn from their mistakes. It is also important to provide for their basic needs like safety and comfort.
Some things that would produce negative actions in children are not having any consequences or morals, or not being provided for physically.
