His theories are based on moral development, he believed that people pass through a series of predictable stages in their moral thinking. There are 3 levels and 6 stages


Beliefs about right and wrong behavior

Preconventional Level

Decisions are made according to consequences

Conventional Level

Decisions are based on social rules and expectations set by family and friends

Postconventional Level

Decisions are based on personal ethics concerning what is morally right

According to this theory, we all think it's important to teach children the difference between right and wrong through consequences so they learn from their mistakes. It is also important to provide for their basic needs like safety and comfort.

Some things that would produce negative actions in children are not having any consequences or morals, or not being provided for physically.
