Physical Education Newsletter
January 2018
Hello January!
2018 is here and we are already in full swing here in Physical Education. With a new year, there are new changes, new challenges, and new ways to help our students grow! I hope this letter finds you well and I hope you are having a great start to the year!
Staying active during the winter time is important. The Center for Disease Control (CDE.Gov) states, "Aerobic activity should make up most of your child's 60 or more minutes of physical activity each day. This can include either moderate-intensity aerobic activity, such as brisk walking, or vigorous-intensity activity, such as running. Be sure to include vigorous-intensity aerobic activity on at least 3 days per week".
Below are some links to articles to some links and blogs that I've found to help students and families stay active during the winter:

As I continue to build the new schedule, I still have some areas where I can use some help. Though I can use help in all areas, I below are my greatest areas of need:
Supervise the locker rooms (both men and women are needed for the appropriate locker room). We need moms and dads for both the morning and afternoon sessions from 8:20-11:00 and/or 12:30-2:30. Men-The boys’ locker room is the area of greatest need. If you have a full day, morning, or afternoon available, please consider supervising the locker room.
Swim instructors-We currently have three adults who will teach swim lessons. They are experienced, good volunteers. We do need two more swim instructor for the morning session and Two more for the afternoon session. If we do not have enough instructors, we cannot swim due to safety issues. Substitutes are also important to have. The morning session runs from 8:20-11:00 and the afternoon session is from 12:30-2:30. Please contact me if you would be available to help or you want more information (824-5762).
This program is so very important to our students. Please contact me if you have interest in helping!

Getting Scientific!
Dehydration is the loss of water and salts from the body. The human body needs water to maintain enough blood and other fluids to function properly. Along with the fluids, the body also needs electrolytes, which are salts normally found in blood, other fluids, and cells. (rehydration.org/hydration)
