BGJHS Newsletter

Friday, February 7, 2020

BGJHS is celebrating Black History Month with several activities, including Thursday's interactive performances by Baba Musa and Natures Drummers. Programs are sponsored by the BGJHS Youth Services Center and WKUISEC.

Thank you to Cally Stuart of the Barren River District Health Department for visiting BGJHS this week to educate our students on the dangers of vaping and e-cigarettes.

Academic Team Competes in Governor's Cup

The Academic Team competed in Governors Cup regional competition last weekend. Nate Stein placed 4th in Written Composition and Ansh Chhabra placed 1st in Math and 4th in Science.

The team also placed 3rd in Quick Recal and 3rd place overall! We are so proud of all of their hard work! Way to go Purples!

Robotics Competition

The newly formed BGJHS Robotics team handled the pressure of competing ⁦

at the First Lego League Kentucky State Championship extraordinarily well last weekend at Northern Kentucky University! Students and Coach Staggs and Coach Estes learned a lot and had fun too!

  • You must register your child by 2/12/2020, so the chaperones can plan accordingly.
  • Kids must be potty-trained AND able to use a standard public restroom toilet without assistance.
  • If your child has a medical need, we will need more information in the google form. Notice: medication will NOT be given during this time-frame due to liability issues.
  • Kids must be picked up on time.
  • If your child needs drinks/snacks, please send them with your child. Additional snacks will NOT be provided by the Jr. Beta Club.
  • If you are wanting to register more than one child, just hit "refresh" on your browser after submitting the form. A blank form will then appear.

*Beta students who wish to volunteer will need to fill out a separate google form in their beta club google classroom. They will pay a fee of $3 to cover their pizza and drink. From the Nurse's Office

Illness prevention To prevent the spread of flu and other illnesses, please do not send your child to school if they are sick. Students who have had a temperature over 100.5 should be fever free for 24 hours without taking fever reducing medicine, like Tylenol, before they return to school.

Remind students to practice good hand hygiene by using hand sanitizers or hand washing frequently throughout the day.

School nurses are only allowed to administer medication with written authorization from a parent or guardian. If you haven’t completed a consent for your student, please contact Nurse Rose at

From the PTSA: SBDM Special Election

There is currently a parent vacancy on the BGJHS SBDM Council. If you would like to run for SBDM, complete the nomination form and return it to the school no later than Tuesday, February 25th. You may nominate yourself or another parent if you have that parent’s consent. The term is for April 1, 2020 until June 30, 2020

Voting will take place during the February 25th (PTSA meeting) and through March 16th in

the school office. One parent member will be elected to serve on the council. Absentee

ballots are not allowed. Election results will be announced via school newsletter

March 20th. Each candidate that applied will be notified by phone the results. If you have any questions, contact Bethany Smith at
