The cause...
The cause of the Mississippi River of 1927 was the breaking of the Levee System. After a few levees broke the whole system then crashed. Leaving the people to suffer in water for over 2 months.
The Consequences
People had to go days stranded in the water with no food or anything to drink , for days upon days. White people where rescued to safety before the African Americans were. They had to work in deplorable conditions.
Damage
23,000 square miles (60,000 square km) of land was submerged, hundreds of thousands of people were displaced, and around 250 people died.
Impact on Community and Enviroment
Levee broke on Illinois Shore, then Mounds Landing in Mississippi , leaving the entire levee system to crash. In places residential areas were in 30 feet of water. 2 months passed until the water completely subsided.
Recovery
It took 11 months for the flood to subside. With that the Act of 1928 then took place and the world's longest levee system was built.
