Tuesday was SENIOR NIGHT as our Lady Brickies hosted the Lake Central Indians in a final tune-up meet before the IHSAA Sectional on Saturday. Senior Yesin Flores was honored after team introductions and performed well in her last meet at HHS! One of the things our girls set as a goal at the beginning of the year was to hit triple digits - score 100 as a team. Well sports fans, CHECK! Hobart sent Yesin out in STYLE with a team score of 100.2 - almost a full 3 points higher than we've scored all year! WOW!!
THANK YOU to Yesin for all your time, energy and hard WORK WORK WORK representing the PURPLE & GOLD with PRIDE the last 4 years!
Here are some individual results from Tuesday:
Senior Yesin Flores - 6th on beam and 5th on floor
Junior Neely Harpp - 4th on both the vault and floor
Sophomore Nataly Ponce - 6th on vault
Junior Iyanna Steele - 5th on vault, 4th on bars and 6th in the all-around with a 32.4
Junior Faith Scott - 2nd on vault, 3rd on bars and 1st on beam (9.4 for her routine) and 4th in the all-around with a 33.85
Junior Skye Lipke took 3rd on the beam in JV action
On Saturday, the Lady Brickies traveled to Chesterton for the IHSAA Sectional competition! Against some of the BEST that Indiana has to offer with the likes of Chesterton and Valparaiso, Hobart placed 7th overall out of 12 schools with a team score of 96.525. This was the 1st meet all year that our girls team score decreased, but the 96+ was still one of the best performances of the season.
Here are some individual results from Saturday:
Senior Yesin Flores - 30th on the beam and 35th on floor
Junior Neely Harpp - 20th on the vault, 30th on bars, 30th on floor and 31st on beam and 17th in the all-around with a 31.750
Sophomore Nataly Ponce - 26th on the vault
Junior Iyanna Steele - 28th on the bars, 29th on beam, 30th on vault, 37th on floor and 18th in the all-around with a 30.800
Junior Faith Scott - 23rd on the vault, 255th on bars, 25th on floor, 25th on beam and 15th in the all-around with a 33.300
Junior Skye Lipke - 32nd on the bars
The sectional at Chesterton is the TOUGHEST in the entire STATE ... with either Valparaiso, Chesterton or Portage winning the STATE TITLE in 9 of the past 12 years, including Chesterton winning in 2018. Our girls COMPETED like champions against the best and PERFORMED EXTREMELY WELL all season!
THANK YOU TO OUR COACHES JEN & JOSE CRESPO for bringing these young ladies so far in such a short amount of time ... and THANK YOU GIRLS for making this school and community PROUD!

Boys Basketball
On "ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NIGHT", Hobart squared off with the KV Kougars in the final conference contest. KV brought a senior-laden squad to the friendly city and looked to even their record at 11-11 against the young Brickies. Early on, the Kougars asserted themselves on the glass and ran out to an early 13-8 lead after 1. Hobart battled back in the 2nd quarter, but KV was able to finish the half on a short run and extended it's lead to 31-23 going into the break. Coming out of the locker room, Hobart tried to turn up the heat on defense, but KV was able to play even and clung to a 10-point lead heading into the 4th and decisive quarter. The last 8 minutes were INTENSE as the Brickies rallied and were able to shrink the gap to 2 possessions on multiple occasions; however, our boys just couldn't quite get over the hump and lost a tough one 60-51. Sophomore Riley Johnston led Hobart with a career-high 17 points and junior Caleb Banjoff added 4 steals.
On SENIOR NIGHT, the HOUSE was PACKED as the Brickies looked to send out senior hooper Kendall McCarthy and senior cheerleaders Gabby Cottrell, Cass Ryder and Merqurie Sage in STYLE with a 'W' in their last home game at HHS! ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE!!! Our boys were BRILLIANT against the Bearcats from the start - executing Coach Brown's game plan to a T. Hobart was TENACIOUS on D-D-D-DEFENSE and took care of the ball on offense in controlling the game on both ends. The Brickies led by 3 at the half ... played even in the 3rd and looked to put Wheeler away early in the 4th with a run midway through the quarter. Wheeler responded and cut the deficit to two points, 37-35, with roughly 2:30 remaining in the game. It was sophomore Cameron Stojancevich who BURIED a HUGE 3 to put Hobart up 40-35 and the Brickies would go on to ICE the game at the foul line and pick up an exciting 43-35 WIN!!! Stojancevich netted FOUR 3-pointers on his way to a career high 17 points in the win! Classmate Riley Johnston led the defensive effort with 3 steals!
The win on SENIOR NIGHT/HOMECOMING was BIG for these youngsters as they were looking to gain some much needed momentum heading into IHSAA Sectional play at Portage High School on Wednesday night. The Bricks will get a rematch with Kankakee Valley at 6PM - should be a GREAT GAME ... BE THERE!!!
THANK YOU to our SENIORS - Gabby Cottrell, Cass Ryder, Merqurie Sage and Kendall McCarthy for representing the PURPLE & GOLD with PRIDE!

Of course, the girl we're talking about is sophomore sensation Emma Wright. The 2019 IHSAA 100-yd freestyle STATE CHAMP took a little trip last Monday with her family to Indianapolis for a RESOLUTION presented by Indiana State Representative Lisa Beck! Representative Beck, along with State Senator Eddie Melton, wanted to recognize Emma's accomplishment on a grand stage! What an honor for Emma and her family ... well-deserved recognition for Hobart High School HISTORY being made in the pool thanks to such hard WORK WORK WORK by this terrific young lady!!
She even stopped by the boys basketball game on Tuesday night vs. KV - along with her bodyguards - to sign autographs for some adoring young fans :)

Cheerleading
On Sunday, our varsity cheerleaders traveled to Portage High School to compete at the Hoosier Open Cheerleading Competition ... and they ROCKED IT!
The girls received 1st place in the Varsity Division with a ZERO DEDUCTION performance!
Additionally, the team received the SPIRIT TROPHY for having the most spirit, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship out of all schools in attendance! This marked the first time Hobart has won this coveted award!
The girls also placed three athletes in the top 5 of the BEST JUMPS competition!
Senior Merqurie Sage, junior Taylor Lollis and freshman Sydnie Anderson finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.
GREAT JOB LADIES!
