Crazy Doc's rant and raves...
- As this is the last SMORE prior to break, please enjoy your break and use it as a change to recharge.
- Prior to leaving for break please make sure your grades are submitted.
- Also, know that your first day back is the same as the students, make sure you are prepared for that first day.
- This time of year is often the most challenging for our students with images of items they will not receive, spending time with dysfunctional families, and uncertainty about meals over the weeks we are out school. Please pay attention to your students how they are reacting.
- If you send a student to the focus room please do so with one of the tickets Casey has provided, that way she knows why they are there. If they do not have a ticket they will be sent back to class.
- Please remember to give yourself credit for the events you attend. Each teacher is expected to attend 3 after school events. Next year we will move to a model where each grade level and department is represented at each PTA meeting. Here is the check in for our events so far: https://docs.google.com/a/sps.org/spreadsheets/d/1xru7fuenf01e2mb01wCoQhbrDw_zVEI_wImMFI7wA1g/edit?usp=sharing
Teacher Spotlight
Thank you to Jill, Sherri, and everyone who made the Bingham Challenge Night happen. From proctoring the tests to running the Spelling Bees, the Challenge Night is a program that will soon be modeled by other schools and you are the reason it is Awesome!
Do you have a idea for a person in the spotlight? Please let me know.

Self-care is just as important as student care!
This time of year we are all feeling the intensity rise. It's easy to get caught up in the chaos of student behavior without realizing that we might be contributing to this chaos. We've all heard that teachers are the thermostat of their classroom. In Conscious Discipline, they refer to our emotions as a "clacker". As our stress level rises our "clacker" starts getting louder and louder. When students act out or won't comply our emotions naturally rise. On top of the everyday stress within our classroom, we all bring our personal stress from home with us each day as well. When you start to feel your internal "clacker" get louder, please take the time to breathe. Deep breathing increases the supply of oxygen to your brain and stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes a state of calmness. Taking time to calm down before we respond to student behavior will not only benefit the child acting out, but will also keep the temperature of your classroom in a comfortable zone. Four more days with students....we can do this!
