December Library News
RRMS, Dec. 2015
Busy, busy, busy. In the best sense. :)
Ms. Grover also conducted book talks on books related to current units in 8th grade science and 7th grade social studies classes. Students were amazed that we had books they could check out that were the same topics as what they were studying!
We also hosted the 1st annual Book Swap! With the amazing help of English teachers, the library sponsored two days of students coming to swap a donated, gently used book for something new. The remaining books will be going to classroom libraries soon. Thanks to the many parent volunteers, too! We're looking forward to making this an annual tradition.
Like previous years, all students at Rocky Run attended book talk presentations by Chantilly Regional Librarians Rob Bartholemew and Stephanie Hutchinson. These presentations were to encourage students to read over break. Our display of titles that the librarians book talked were gone in the first 20 minutes of Rock Time!
The RRMS library was also extremely fortunate to host a meeting of the Chantilly Literacy Pyramid on December 9. Attended by teachers, reading specialists, and administrators across the pyramid, this meeting focused on how to increase students' literacy using root words.
Many things are coming up in the new year. Stay tuned! :)
