Math Classroom News
Mrs Fitzsimmons - Week of September 30, 2016
Pre-Algebra (Math 8)
Students were introduced to monomials this week. Students have been multiplying and dividing monomials and learning about how to change a negative exponent to make it positive. Next week we will have our second unit test. Students will be given a review sheet on Tuesday and we will go over it during class on Wednesday before we take our test. It is super important that students try this review practice independently so they know where they have questions and are able to ask before we test. We will also take our diagnostic test in iReady next week. This online program will help us assess and learn in which specific categories students struggle. Towards the end of the week, students will learn about scientific notation, how to use it in real world problems, and how to perform operations involving scientific notation. Since we are halfway through our first quarter, all work for the first half of the quarter must be turned in no later then Friday, October 7. Please check Blackboard and have your child turn in any missing assignments no later then this date. IXL assignments are the only assignments we will not accept for late grades since students have a week to complete their weekly IXL objectives.Math homework is assigned every night except test days. Please remind your child to complete this each night as this practice is crucial to success. Additionally every child has weekly IXL goals to help with the week's learning. These are assigned Monday as a warmup and due Friday.
