Principal's Message
Hello Families of Violet students,
The start of the school year has been a very smooth transition for the most part. For some students, it’s a little harder to get back into the swing of school after a summer break. However, we have been in school for twelve days and all of our students are in the learning groove once again!
As a community of learners, we are working to ensure that all scholars, teachers, and staff this year embrace a growth mindset and a great desire for EXCELLENCE. We believe that just as it is important to teach reading and math skills, it is equally important to teach our children about mindset. Our goal is to develop learners who persevere in their pursuit of learning and goal attainment. It is our desire to provide scholars with the tools they will need to be successful in learning as well as in the community. We look forward to partnering with you in this effort!
Please know that your child’s academic learning and social-emotional growth is of utmost importance to us here at Violet. We recognize that as parents, you play an important role in your child’s education. Therefore, we invite you to take an active role in your scholar’s learning experience by:
Collaborating with your child’s teacher(s) in order to establish a healthy and successful relationship
Maintain open communication to ensure a successful partnership throughout the year
Commit to increasing your parental engagement and involvement for the 2018-2019 school year through opportunities like PTO and PAC
There will be a variety of events to watch out for this month, including the 4th grade GOOD program, our PTO meeting, picture day, and movie night. There will be plenty of opportunities to get involved and connect to what’s happening around the building.
We will continue our mission to Be Kind, Be Helpful, and to Be Caring at Violet ES. Please continue to remind students about ways that they can display these characteristics in and out of school. We will also continue to celebrate students in many ways, such as birthday shoutouts, Student of the Month, Super Violet Award, etc. We can never celebrate enough when it comes to our students.
"They may forget what you said but they will never forget how you made them feel." -- Carol Buchner
Respectfully,
Dee Copas
Attendance
We believe that regular, punctual attendance to school is essential if our students are to receive maximum benefit from the educational program we offer. Success in school is directly related to attendance habits, and developing a regular pattern of good attendance is crucial for future success.
First and foremost, it is the responsibilities of the parents to ensure their children have regular school attendance. Additionally, in the event a student is absent from school for any reason, it is the responsibility of the parent to notify the school. The specific policies related to elementary school attendance are described in the student handbook and can be found at https://www.pickerington.k12.oh.us/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/2018-19-ES.MS-Handbook-FINAL-1.pdf

The Pickerington Plan for Progress
Pickerington Schools is developing The Pickerington Plan for Progress, a roadmap for the future that ensures we are attaining greater levels of efficiency, reaching a higher level of community trust, and graduating students that are prepared for today’s world.
The Plan for Progress will focus on three key goals:
Academic Excellence – What must we do to engage all our students in relevant and rich learning experiences that will prepare them for career, college, and life?
Efficient Operations – What can we do to maximize resources and ensure the district is operating efficiently?
Modern Facilities – Do our facilities reflect the environment needed to be successful in today’s world?
Our hope is to have our Plan for Progress completed this school year and for it to serve as a connection between schools and community that reflects resident and staff input, values, priorities.
We need your input to ensure our priorities match the priorities of our community!
Principal Copas will hold an informal public presentation about the Plan for Progress on September 11th at 7:00 p.m. during our PTO Meeting. Parents and staff members are invited to hear about the Plan for Progress and discuss their ideas for the district’s future.
We also encourage you to visit our website at www.pickerington.k12.oh.us/p4p/ to learn about the Plan for Progress. While there, click on the link that will allow you to take a brief survey in which you may share your priorities in the areas of academic excellence, efficient operations, and modern facilities.
Pickerington Schools also will hold two informal public events in September. At these events, the community is invited to hear about the Plan for Progress and discuss their ideas for the district’s future with our superintendent, Dr. Chris Briggs. The events will be:
- 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Sycamore Plaza Branch of the Pickerington Library (across from Pickerington High School North.)
- 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at the main branch of the Pickerington Library (off Opportunity Way near Pickerington High School Central.)
We look forward to hearing from you and hearing your thoughts as we develop the Plan for Progress, which will pave the way into the future for Pickerington Schools.
Thank you!
