This Is How We Lakeview
July 2023 Edition: Volume 4

Latest Updates
We are just as excited as many of you are for the big North / Central football game tonight. The district has sent out messages the past few days as a reminder for gameday procedures and fan expectations. I reminded students of our expectations for them on the announcements today, and nothing has changed from the previous home games. We have gotten great feedback from North's administration regarding the conduct of our students at previous home games, and we are proud of our students for representing our school well. I'm sure that tonight will be no different. If you are heading to the game, enjoy the rivalry and please help to set a positive example for all of our students. I will see you at the game!

Reminders for Visitors to the Building
Our policy for visitors is continuing from last year, but I am including this as a reminder and an update for families new to Lakeview.
Any visitor to the building will not be let in without a previously scheduled appointment. If you are picking up your student for any reason, please ensure that you have your identification ready to show the camera, and we will send your student out to you. At times, we may not ask to see your ID if we can see you through the camera and recognize you. If you are not listed in Infinite Campus, the student will not be released, unless we have received permission from the listed parent(s)/guardian(s).
It also is helpful to the front office if you call ahead to let us know you will be picking up your student early. This way, we can try to have your student in the office already, and we will know to expect you around a certain time.
If you are needing to drop something off to your student, please ring the bell and we will assist you. You will be asked to place the item you have in the container by the door, and we will come out to retrieve it.
We appreciate your cooperation as we continue to provide a safe and secure environment for our students!
Athletic Event Reminders
As a reminder, all K-8 students wanting to attend any home varsity football game this year must be accompanied by an adult to get into the stadium. The only exception is junior high football players or cheerleaders who are in uniform.
While in the stadium, we expect students to behave appropriately and to be sitting either with family/friends in the main bleachers or be sitting in the junior high student section, which is a separate set of bleachers located next to the high school student section. Junior high students are not to be running under/behind the bleachers or standing in the open area near concessions (unless in line for food). District staff will be on site to direct students to the bleachers.
Please pick up your child no later than 15 minutes after the conclusion of any athletic event. This includes all Lakeview and North sporting events. If students are not picked up within 15 minutes after an event ends, they may lose the right to attend future events.
Upcoming Panorama Survey
Later this month, students will have the opportunity to complete the Panorama Fall SEL surveys. These surveys help to provide us with social and emotional learning information, which we use to plan interventions and outreach to best support our students. SEL is the process through which children and adults apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. These are the skill sets that promote success in life.
To view the surveys, please use these links to access the SEL Competencies survey and the Supports and Environment survey. Please notify us if you do not want your child to participate in the survey by September 22. To opt-out, you may return the completed form (below) or email your child’s School Counselor.
Therapy Dog Visits to Lakeview
We are excited that we will be continuing our Therapy Dog Program at Lakeview. Leo and Tucker, canine good citizens and registered therapy dogs, will make regular visits to our building. The purpose of these visits is to enhance the educational experiences for our students both academically and emotionally.
Many of our students have had the pleasure of working with therapy dogs at their elementary and/or middle schools in Pickerington. As young adolescents, junior high students have the same and often more need for additional support during their school day. Here at Lakeview, the staff aims to provide the very best educational and emotional support to our students. The addition of Leo and Tucker to our building has proven to be positive for our school climate.
Leo or Tucker will make weekly visits to Lakeview along with their experienced handler, Sandy Weber. Sandy and her pups have volunteered their time to the students and staff in PLSD for over a decade. Teaming together, Sandy and her ‘boys’ help bring our school community together. We are looking forward to all Leo, Tucker, and Sandy will bring to Lakeview this year.
For questions or to learn more about the therapy dogs or the program, please do not hesitate to contact me sheryl_broz-england@plsd.us. To opt your child out of the therapy dog program, please complete the form below and send a copy to the building principal, Ben Baptist (ben_baptist@plsd.us).

Per PLSD policy, medication must be delivered and picked up by a parent/guardian. Students should not be storing or transporting medication in their book bag. The correct paperwork must be completed and the medication needs to be in the original container and not expired. Please call (614) 830-2203 if you have any questions.
Prescription Medications
In the event your child needs to take prescription medication while at school, the Request for Administration of Medication by School Personnel form must be completed by the child's physician and parents/guardians.
Non-prescription Medications
These medications, such as Advil, Tylenol, cough drops, etc., may be administered to students if the parent/guardian brings in the medication along with written permission for the medication to be given. All medications must be sent in the original container. Dosages cannot exceed manufacturer's recommendations for age and weight. We must have a note from the doctor to give a dose of medication that is different from the dose stated on the bottle.

Recent Updates
We received one piece of family feedback this past week, praising their child's teachers for helpful communication to start the year. We are so happy to hear that we are effectively communicating with families. We think we have a pretty amazing staff, so it's great to hear that our families think so, too!
