NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 8 | 8 SEPTEMBER 2023

Dear parents and caregivers,
It is hard to believe that we only have two weeks left of Term Three … where has the time gone!!
Yesterday, we were absolutely spoiled with some magnificent weather for our Athletics Carnival, and we sent home lots of tired students and staff! Congratulations to our students for the fantastic competitive spirit and overwhelming sportsmanship that was evident throughout the day. This year some extra events were held during the week, such as turbo javelin, jumps and long-distance running and allowed us to announce champion boys and girls for students in Year Four to Six. Days like this do not happen with someone planning, setting up and leading the way … thank you to Mrs Clarkson for doing such an outstanding job at this and creating wonderful memories for our students. To our hardworking P&F, well done on a very successful sausage sizzle and cake stall and to all the families that supported them by providing yummy treats to sell or purchasing them for morning tea! To Mr Steve D’Costa, thank you for creating the fun atmosphere with the music selection and to our talented announcer, Mrs Curtis, for keeping us all informed on the day! Finally, to my dedicated staff for starting the day early to get everything organised and set up … thank you … you are simply the best!
Next week is Book Fair and Community Open Night. I’m looking forward to welcoming all our families into school to celebrate the wonderful learning that is taking place at St Elizabeth’s. Classrooms will be open from 3 – 5pm and food vans will operate from around 5pm until 7pm.
This term we have been truly blessed to have three wonderful 4th Year Inservice Teachers from Murdoch University join our staff and today we farewell them. They have all been a fantastic addition to our school community and will be missed by both staff and students. I wish them all the best as they embark on what I believe is a great vocation.
Finally, please save the date for the Community Christmas Concert which will be held on Wednesday, November 29 starting at 5pm.
Wishing you all a great weekend!
God bless

Principal

Year Three Scarecrow Project
The Year Three's have been extra busy this week building their Scarecrows. This was a part of our Technologies unit this term, where students learnt about different foods and where they come from. We investigated different labels on foods, how foods were processed, and compared healthy and unhealthy foods. As part of our learning, in small groups, students designed their own scarecrows, using recyclable materials. Their scarecrows needed to showcase the diversity of agriculture within Australia.
One scarecrow will be lucky enough to go on an adventure to the Perth Royal Show and represent our school community. But we need your help! On Community Open Night, Wednesday 13th September, the scarecrows will be on display along the veranda, in the garden beds near the Year Three classroom. Each scarecrow will have a number and their name clearly displayed. We will have a little post box on a table beside them with some paper for you to clearly write the number and name of the scarecrow you choose to represent our school. The winning scarecrow will be announced to students and the wider community by the end of the week. Please come past Year Three on Wednesday night and vote for the scarecrow you think should have that lucky experience of heading to the Perth Royal Show.
