Learning Targets

Reading:

Focus: Poetry

I can explain what a Couplet & Acrostic Poem is by listening to the technique of designing a poem & share examples with my friends.




Word Work:

Focus: Blends and Word Patterns

I can identify and use the following blends to help me spell new words: cr, br, dr, fr, gr, pr, wr

I can read and spell the following word patterns: _ine- fine, mine, Valentine, shine, etc. /_y- cry, try, shy, my, fry, etc.

I can change _y words by adding s, ed, & ing. Example: cries, cried, crying



Grammar:

Focus: Similes

I can identify Similes in poetry and write my own Simile.



Writing:

Focus: Poetry

I can write a Color Poem, Couplet Poem, & Acrostic Poem and explain the difference in each type of poem by sharing my poem with my class.



Math:

Focus: Ordering Numbers and Greater than & Less than

I can understand that a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones by using base-ten blocks.

I can order numbers up to 120 by greater than-less than & less than-greater than.


Essential Questions to ask your child:

How can we use hundreds, tens, and ones to determine the order of a set of numbers?

How do we know that one number is greater than or less than another number?


Social Studies:

Focus: Good Citizenship

I can learn the characteristics of good citizenship and explain how I can be a good citizen.

I can explain why being a good citizen is a system by sharing examples with a friend.


Vocabulary we will be learning:

citizenship: being a member of and supporting one's community, state, or country

truthfulness: the characteristic of being honest or true

justice: the characteristic of being fair and just

equality: the characteristic of being equal or having the same rights

respect: how you feel about someone and how you treat others

Showing respect to someone means you act in a way that shows you care about others’ feeling and well-being.

responsibility: a duty to perform or complete a task

government: the group of people who control and make decisions for a country, state, city, etc.

participation: to contribute; to be a part of something; to be involved
