Fall Edition
Tweens Read Book Festival
Students have been hearing about this year's Tweens Read Book Festival for the past few weeks. It is a free event geared towards 5th - 8th graders. 32 authors will be at this event talking to students about their new books. Blue Willow Bookshop will also be there selling books, and students may get autographs at the end of the day.
It will be held October 22nd at South Houston High School in Pasadena from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Jason Reynolds
Jason Reynolds will be the keynote speaker and his book The Boy in the Black Suit made the 2016 Lone Star Award list!
Ally Carter
Ally Carter is one of my favorite authors and I have enjoyed all of her books. She mostly writes stories about espionage and intrigue with teens as the main characters.
Tui Sutherland
The Wings of Fire series is very popular at Berry Miller and Sutherland's new book Darkstalker will be available at the TweensRead Book Festival!
Bingo Book Challenge!
Runs Oct. 1st - Feb. 1st **Try for one Bingo (5 in a row) or a blackout!
Students and staff both like a good challenge, especially when it comes to reading! This year it comes in the form of a Bingo sheet that helps students to read books from many genres (audiobooks and ebooks count too!). Email Mrs. Paris if you have any questions! pariss@pearlandisd.org
Book Fair Coming Next Month!
The Book Fair will be the week before Thanksgiving Break. Books make great Christmas gifts!
Digital Safety Presentations
Next Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 11th and 12th, the counselors will be presenting a Digital Safety Presentation to 7th and 8th graders through their Reading classes in the library. We have books in the library about digital safety if you'd like to check them out.
Digital Dangers
Discusses digital dangers, such as cyberbullying and online predators, including what they are, how they happen, how to avoid them, and more.
Downloading and Online Shopping Safety and Privacy
This book provides safety tips for online shopping and entertainment. Chapters describe the dangers of online tracking, email hacking, and identity theft, and explain how to minimize the risks. Includes specific ideas for password protection.
You Have Mail: True Stories of Cybercrime
Provides background information on crooks and terrorists who are using the Internet for illegal activities, as well as the computer experts and crime fighters trying to stop them; features real-life accounts of cybercriminals, a teen hacker, and an online terrorist hunter; looks at some of the scams perpetrated by Internet criminals; and discusses a career in computer security.
