OES Vision: Building Foundations for Every Students' Success
Shout-outs:
The staff in the first grade wing when we had an emergency.
The person or people who added some holiday decor to the workroom...thank you!
Need-to-Knows:
- Reminder there are times available for a massage on December 5th. The sign-up is on the counter behind Jill's desk.
- The next three weeks could be more stressful for our students as they realize they will not be at school, a consistent/secure place, for an extended amount of time. Please keep that in mind.
- SAT meetings will occur the week of December 3rd.
- The Christmas Bazaar will be held in room 141 on December 6th for PreK-3rd grade students and December 7th for 4th-6th grade students. Set-up will begin during the noon dismissal on December 5th.
- As a reminder, if your grade level has an activity/trip planned, please email Jill so it can be added to the calendar.
Instructional Coach Strategies/Resources:
1. Students anonymously answer a question or write a one-minute summary
2. Students crumple response into a snowball and throw it on the teacher's signal.
3. Students pick up and read three snowballs.
4. Students pick up a 4th snowball, form groups of 3-4 and share responses.
5. Student groups evaluate responses and select the one that is most complete and profound.
6. Teacher allows 3-4 "winning" responses to be read aloud and clarifies/verifies as needed.
Get to the Point-An activity that supports students in evaluating mistakes that they have made on an assessment.
1. Students get a graded test back and individually “code” the questions they have missed as…
· Careless mistakes (knew it and blew it)
· Clueless mistakes (didn’t reach me; please teach me)
2. For students who did not miss any questions, ask them to code the 3 most difficult questions and explain WHY they were difficult.
3. Post a blank test on the wall in the classroom.
4. Students are provided 3 garage sale dots to place on the 3 questions they struggled with the most and want the teacher to review.
5. The teacher uses the feedback to select 5-6 questions (or however many are appropriate for your learners’ needs) for review/deconstruction.
The teacher reviews the selected questions to help students understand the stimulus, vocabulary, concept/skill, and/or the correct answer, and WHY it is correct and the others are incorrect.Book Studies:
