A quick look at great technology to make your life easier
Consider a class blog...
Have you ever considered starting a class blog? There are so many ways blogs can be used in a classroom. Are you thinking this is one more thing you don't have time for? Let the students help you with your blog. Blogs can help keep you in touch with parents and give students opportunities to use writing skills without realizing they are working.
How do I get started?
Wordpress
Wordpress is the blogging tool that I use. It is user-friendly and easy to keep track of. You can pay for all the bells and whistles but I think the free version offers me everything I need for my blog.
Kidblog
Kidblog is designed for teachers who want each of their students to write their own blog. Students can write their own posts and participate in class discussions.
Edublogs
Edublogs is the most popular education-based blogging site. It allows you to easily create teacher and student blogs. You can customize designs and add video, photos and podcasts.
How would I use a blog in my classroom?
- Share materials, news, links with students and parents.
- Facilitate online discussions and collaboration--Go beyond the conversation that you had in class and keep the learning going.
- Stay in touch with parents about what is going on in your classroom.
- Assign students to blog about what they learned in your class this week.
- Share pictures of the projects you are working on in class.
- Post resources students might need when working at home.
