Term 2 Week 4 2022
From the Principal’s Desk
Kia ora Tātou
We are already four weeks into our term and everyone is working hard. Last week we celebrated Pink Shirt Day and looked at children speaking out, being proud and being kind.
I was chatting with some children this week about social media and the effects that it has on the way they interact with each other. It is so easy to say something we think is funny when we are behind a keyboard or fingertips on our device. If we are not privy to the way that our young people talk to each other then we are not fully aware of their social interactions. It is definitely time in this world to make sure that our young ākonga, our future leaders, are learning the importance of social interactions and learning to build each other up, not tear each other down as a joke. A joke is only funny if both people think so!
I implore you to have a close look at what your children are doing online and monitor it. Even though they will see this as an intrusion at first, in the long run it will strengthen your conversations and relationships if you all know what is happening. All of our children are beautiful people working hard to learn how to be grown up in this crazy topsy turvy world.
We want all our children to feel like they can speak out and ask for help!

Pink T-shirt day May 20th 2022- “Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying!”
It was wonderful to see such support from our community.
We also ran a 'design a t-shirt' competition. Students were given a template of a t-shirt and they put a lot of thought into the colours and design, to get their message across.
Check out the winning designs below.
Congratulations to Ivy Green, Annabel Mead, Kimchen Lim, Calais Wilson, Oceane Opie and Kyra Phimester. Well done ladies, beautiful designs with wonderful messages.
