A Note From Mrs. Mathe

Book fair this week was a hit! I remember as a kid the feeling of a new book, there was nothing better! Thank you to all our volunteers that made the book fair happen for our kids. We couldn't have done it without you!

Next Friday, October 28th, is National First Responders Day. We are grateful for all first responders and all they do to keep us safe. On Friday, we have invited some local first responders to open car doors in car rider pick up line. We invite you to honk and say a little thank you as you pick your child up from school on October 28th. Our Kindness Club is also working on cards and goodie bags for them as well.

Drop off on Tuesday and Thursdays

The Powell Honor Choir meets every Tuesday and Thursday morning. If you are joining our car line prior to 7:25 on Tuesday and Thurday morning, please start the car line at the fence line until the choir students have all entered the building.

If you are dropping your child off for choir and have younger siblings in your car, please remember to pull back around to the carpool line after dropping off your choir student. Those who sit in the front of the school after dropping their child off at 7:15am are making drop off for others difficult, and the choir parents are having to pull out to go around them. We are also having some children walking across the traffic, which is a safety concern.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Gifted and Talented Nominations

GT Referral requests are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by parents and/or campus staff.

It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) scores have arrived before nominating their child as CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. All 2nd grade students will take the CogAT October 18 & 19. 2nd grade parents will be contacted if their child will be nominated for further testing in the spring.

Referrals will be accepted October 3- December 16, 2022. You may request a referral packet from Mrs. Nixon at snixon@conroeisd.net
