Return to School Information

As we move steadily toward a return to campus for in-person instruction, I want to assure you that the staff and I are committed to providing each student with a safe and orderly learning environment and a rigorous, challenging, and developmentally appropriate curriculum during this unique and unusual school year. We are honored to have the opportunity to work with your child and are very excited to teach them in person.


In the content below, we are providing two videos. The first is brought to you by Joanne Choi, our Elementary Resource Counselor with tips on how to support your child as you prepare them fro in-person instruction. The second video explains our new arrival and dismissal procedures. These have changed greatly; please take time to review the video prior to the start of school on Thursday, September 24th. A Note from the School Nurse


We are looking forward to having you back on campus in person very soon. Our entire staff has been working diligently to ensure a successful return for each student. In that preparation, we are implementing measures to, not only bring students and staff back safely, but to keep students and staff back in school safely. I hope that you will partner with us in our efforts for a safe return.


Daily Home Screening

You will receive a daily checklist and a symptom screener. It will be very important that you remember to bring the items on the checklist each day that you are on campus, especially your mask (and maybe a backup or two)! Please also ensure that you go through the symptoms screener prior to your arrival every day. If any symptoms are present before you arrive at school, it is very important that you stay home. Notify your teacher that you are staying home due to illness and ensure a parent calls the attendance line at 949-936-6451.


Illness on Campus

If a student becomes ill on campus, it will be necessary to send the student home immediately to limit exposure to students and staff. In years prior, we may have determined that a student can rest in the health office and then go back to class with minor symptoms; however, this year we are taking extra measures to slow the spread of any possible illness. We ask that parents pick up students immediately after notification that your student is ill. In the event that a parent or guardian is not able to pick up immediately such as working a significant distance away from school, we recommend that a backup plan is in place for another adult to pick up the student in a timely manner when parents are unable to do so.


Students with symptoms of illness will be waiting for parent pick up in our sick room, an isolated area away from non-ill students. There may be other students who are also ill awaiting the arrival of parents in the same room so ensuring a prompt pickup will limit unnecessary exposure to both students and staff. We also ask that when picking up an ill child from school, parents wait in the car at the curb in the parking lot near Honors. Please call the health office at 949-936-6461 once you arrive at the curb and a staff member will walk your student out to you, eliminating the need to come into the office.


Please also take time to review our updated Illness Notification form. It will now be necessary for students to stay home for 10 days since symptoms of illness began and the student has been fever free without medication for 24 hours and symptoms are improving. If you do not feel that the student is experiencing illness despite symptoms exhibited at school, it will be necessary for the student to be cleared by a physician to return to school prior to the 10 days of the onset of symptoms. We realize that these measures may seem extreme but these are the guidelines established by local health authorities to mitigate the spread of illness in our community.


Persons with COVID-19

If your student or a member of your household is determined to be positive for COVID-19 or is awaiting test results, please notify me as soon as possible. Prompt notification will ensure that we collaborate with local health agencies and ensure all proper guidelines are met. Patient confidentiality will always be a priority and private information will never be shared with others. Please also ensure that unnecessary rumors are not spread about students or other families suspected of having COVID-19. Illness Prevention

We have implemented many measures over the past several weeks to ensure that students and staff have the resources they need to stay healthy including:

● Increased access to hand washing and sanitizing

● Required cloth face covering or face mask while on campus (be sure to bring an extra as well as a bag for proper storage when mask is not in use)

● Physical distancing in the classroom and in common areas

● Increased air filtration in indoor spaces


We also ask that students limit unnecessary time on campus before and after school and ensure that they are adhering to physical distancing in common areas such as hallways and bathrooms. The school campus will remain closed to parents as in years past. Any parent coming onto campus will need an appointment and will then check in at the front office. Parents, please also ensure that you wear a face covering and adhere to physical distancing when coming onto campus.


We realize that this year is going to look different in many ways but there is one thing that will never change; our dedication to “the good of the flock”. We are confident that we will have a very successful school year. Welcome back, Hawks!

School Day Procedures

On Monday, September 21 and Tuesday, September 22, the staff will be engaged in training around health, safety, and campus-wide procedures. These are non-student days and distance learning content will not be provided.


During our students' final day of distance learning on Wednesday, September 23 the teachers will be focusing their synchronous time around school day procedures. This will help our students understand what to expect when they are arrive a school. Please see below for a brief outline of some of our procedures.

PPE Guidelines


  • Masks are required for all students, staff, and parents at all IUSD campuses

  • These may be removed at teacher/staff direction in grades K-2 only when physical distancing is 6 feet or when eating, drinking, or exercising.

  • Students in grades 3-6 must wear face coverings unless they are eating, drinking, or exercising.

  • Per state guidelines, there are exemptions for persons with medical/health conditions.

  • Please begin the process of getting your child familiar with wearing a mask.

  • Parents are encouraged to send your child with their own face covering that can be taken home and laundered daily. However, there will be masks provided to students that do not bring their own face covering.

Classroom Safety


  • Each traditional class has two assigned classrooms where daily instruction will occur.

  • In addition to the teacher, each traditional class has an instructional assistant that supports learning and assists with social distancing.

  • Traditional classes will be split into two groups throughout the majority of the day.

  • Students will remain with their classroom cohort throughout the day and will not be with other classroom cohorts to the greatest extent possible.

  • Desks will be spread out to allow for social distancing to the extent possible and desk shields will be provided for each student’s desk.

  • Where practicable, the classroom instructors will rotate rather than the cohorts of students to minimize movement.

  • The entire class will be together each day during the class opening and closing, and on occasional instructional blocks due to special circumstances. Class opening will take place outdoors weather permitting.

  • Paths of travel have been determined for travel from one part of campus to another and social distancing guidelines will be followed.

Recess and Lunch

All Students:

  • Hand washing occurs prior to and after snack and lunch.
  • All students will be provided time to eat a snack, however, food will not be available for purchase. Students on the free-reduced lunch program will receive a cold breakfast.

  • Lunch will be available for purchase in the traditional and hybrid model.


Traditional Model:

  • Students will walk through the lunch line utilizing social distance. Each class will be assigned a door and a specific path of travel through the lunch line.

  • Students will eat snack and lunch in assigned seats with a distance of greater than 6 feet at outdoor lunch benches. Snack/lunch may be taken to the assigned play area if students are unable to finish in time.

  • During recess and lunch, students will play each day in an assigned playground zone that separates them from other classes. They will rotate activities each day. Students may have the option to read a book or be a spectator if they choose.

  • A supervisor will be assigned to monitor each playground zone.

  • The play structures will be closed for play due to the difficulty associated with cleaning and sanitizing them thoroughly between recess play times.

  • Individual classroom play equipment will be provided, cleaned daily, and only used by classroom cohorts if deemed appropriate for the assigned playground zone.


Hybrid Model:

  • Hybrid students on the free and reduced lunch program will have a breakfast snack delivered to their classroom.

  • A bagged lunch will be available to free and reduced lunch patrons and for purchase. It will be delivered prior to departure each day.

  • Hybrid students will have a 15 minute outdoor snack break period.

What to Bring to School

  • Students are encouraged to bring water bottles. Drinking fountains will be closed

  • Personal cloth face covering are also encouraged, however, there will be face coverings available if a student does not have one.

  • All students will have a dedicated Chromebook to use at school. Based upon the number of devices available at our site, students will NOT need to bring their district-loaned Chromebook to and from school. We are able to assign each on-campus student a device for school use that will not be shared with other students.

  • Stonegate will limit sharing of supplies between students to the extent possible and encourage students to take home personal items for cleaning daily.

  • Students may bring backpacks to and from school.

Cleaning Procedures

  • Custodial staff has been trained in COVID-19 cleaning and disinfecting procedures.

  • Cleaning protocols are in place for Stonegate to deep clean, sanitize and disinfect.

  • Scheduled cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces (e.g., door handles, sink handles, light switches) within the school will occur at least three times daily or between use as much as possible.

  • Scheduled cleaning and disinfecting of all classroom and instructional spaces (e.g., student desks, chairs, surfaces,) within the school will occur at least daily or between use as much as possible.

  • The cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting products used meet EPA disinfection criteria. Staff members using cleaning products have been trained on proper use.
