The Galway Varsity Cross Country Teams Concluded their 2020 Fall Season
This season because volleyball and soccer were not taking place in the fall, many newcomers joined both the Boys’ and Girls’ teams. The Varsity Girls were 4-4 in dual meets and came in 6th out of 9 schools in the WAC Championships. The girls were led by Senior Captain Morgan Drouin who medaled in the League Championship. Sophomore standout Emma Jordan, secured a place on the WAC All Star Team for her 3rd consecutive year, by finishing 6th in the championship meet. The girls team was well balanced with girls from every grade: Junior Julia Reedy, Sophomores Abigail Ehrenberg, Emma Mariani and Stepahanie Martin, two Freshmen Abby Gullett and Emma Mitchell as well as one eighth grader Taylor Germain. The girls were a NYS Scholar Athlete Team.
The Varsity Boys were 1-5-2 and also finished 6th out of 9 schools in the WAC Championship. They were led by Senior Captain Ben Jordan and by Freshman standout Casey Clark who also became a WAC League Allstar with his 14th place finish at the WAC Championship. The Boys team has a bright future with sophomore Thomas Villano who always finished 2nd for the boys and was supported by Freshmen Clark Anuszewski and Eben Perkins as well by eighth graders Simon Evans and Cody Schneider. The boys were a NYS Scholar Athlete Team.
Open Gym Sessions
Open gym session for Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Cheer, and Wrestling began this month. Open gym sessions are open to any Galway High School student. The registration must be completed prior to a student being allowed to participate in an open gym. Once registered, the athlete should email the coach for their sport to sign up for the available times.
All precautions to reduce the spread of COVID-19 are being taken. There are only 6 athletes per session, and each student will have a temperature scan upon arrival, and need to complete the COVID screening. Coaches will keep an attendance list in case contact tracing needs to be conducted. Open gym sessions will consist of mostly individual skills and conditioning. No physical contact between athletes, and no sharing of equipment is permitted at this time per NYS Department of Health. If you have any questions, please contact Athletic Director, Elise Britt at ebritt@galwaycsd.org or the varsity coach of your sport.
