News and Updates from FSMA
Looking ahead to 2015...
As we move into the new year, FSMA continues our dedication to helping every child do his/her best learning and growing. Today, we spent our first professional development day looking at data collection and the Common Core Standards and we are ready to jump right in when students return.
Often families ask how they can help their child... here are a few different ways to help your student reach their fullest potential:
Get involved with our PTO... they plan many incredible opportunities for our students staff. January's calendar of events will come home next week. Be sure to check out all the fun planned for FSMA Families in January!
Limit the distractions... in order to help your child do their best, it helps to limit the items they bring to school that might be hard for them to manage. Things like Pokémon cards and electronics should be left at home and there are clear policies regarding electronics in your Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.
Encourage playdates... forming relationships with peers is so important. It is something we work hard to foster every day in school but can be even better when supported outside of school.
Play board games... There are so many skills that can be learned through playing games - turn-taking, cooperation, supporting each other, sportsmanship, and don't forget things like problem-solving and strategy development. And the bonus, it can be FUN!
Winter is Here!
Test: Alert System
On Sunday, you should receive a phone call and an email from FSMA's emergency alert system, Connect 5. We are conducting this test to ensure that we have accurate information in our system. If you need to change any of the information, please contact our main office. This system will be used for communicating emergencies and school closings.
FYI - Because of the system, we are limited to having two phone numbers and one email address associated with each student.
Enrollment Updates
If you are planning to enroll a sibling or encourage a friend to enroll their child, please note that the open enrollment period ends on January 14th, 2015. Applications received after this deadline will be put at the bottom of the waiting list regardless of their preference qualifications.
As of right now, we have received over 300 applications for approximately 70 spaces... thank you for spreading the word about the great things happening at FSMA.
