CHANGE IN GRADES 4 AND 5 SCIENCE/SS STATE TESTING FROM MAY TO APRIL 12! (Please note this!)

ONE SCHOOL, ONE BOOK: STARTING NEXT WEEK!
EARLY DISMISSAL REMINDERS!
- Due to our dismissal procedures, there are no early dismissals after 3:00 p.m.
- Even though it is cold, for safety and security reasons, we are not allowing visitors in the building. If you come for an early dismissal, we have to find your child and get them from wherever their class is at that time. This makes for a longer wait for you...and, if we have multiple dismissals at one time, it stretches that time even longer.
- Best case scenario, unless it is an emergency, avoid early dismissals!
CAR LINE PARENTS
1. Please communicate to anyone else who may be dropping your student off in the morning that they should not get upset when we signal that they need to pull ALL THE WAY UP. We are trying to get a lot of cars through the line in as quick a time as possible and if any car stops and starts letting out without pulling to the front of the line, it can cause delays for hundreds of other parents!! Yes, even in the rain this has to happen....
2. Due to back ups at the stoplight, to keep the line moving, you probably have noticed that we have started to move all exiting vehicles to the left hand side of the drop off area. This then allows us to pull up the next group on the right hand side to continue with arrival. If you are turning right, you can move into the right lane once you pass the stop sign. Again, if we didn't do this, we would have to hold all the cars in the waiting car line until the light turned green each time and would delay everyone. The more 'in order' the cars exit and move to the left, the easier it is so, again, if you need extra time to get your child into the car, please pull into the lot and they can cross at the brick walkway with a staff member.
Thank you in advance!
ORDER YOUR YEARBOOK NOW!

ONE SCHOOL, ONE BOOK IS COMING SOON!!!
Our school will be embarking on a special project for the fifth year: a whole school book club called One School/One Book! Through Title I funds, every Wilbur family will receive a copy of the same book and be asked to read it aloud with their children at home during ‘I Love To Read Month’ from February 1st through February 28th. I am personally asking you to make the time in your schedule in the coming month so your family can participate in this special activity. We weren't able to have this special event last year due to half our school being remote so we are excited to bring it back now!
Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader. But it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. With the One School/ One Book program, we aim to build a community of readers at our school. Everyone - students, parents, teachers, principals, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, custodians - will be participating, and we want your child to be a part of this as well.
We will be announcing this year’s book title on January 31st to kick off our One School/One Book program. Your child will receive a copy of the book that day. The reading calendar, which will show which days we will read each chapter, will come home with the book so you can make sure your child is on track. Generally you will be asked to read a chapter a night aloud to your child, Monday through Friday. This will take about 10 to 15 minutes per night.
In school, your child will be invited to answer daily trivia questions to encourage and reward great listening skills. You will soon find that your child will take pride in knowing and anticipating the details of the story. In class, there may be various activities that discuss or explore the book. Throughout the month, everyone at Wilbur will be talking about the book. See the video below to get more of an idea of what One School/ One Book is all about!
PIVOT AND PIVOT......
HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR WEEKLY COVID TESTING FOR MY CHILD?
SNOW DAYS
1. A delayed start to school (typically either one or two hour delays)
2. A traditional snow day (where students have off school totally)
3. A Virtual day (where students have school on zoom from 9:00-12:15)
The decision about which scenario will happen is made at the district level and will be communicated as soon as they have made a final decision about that day. I always follow up the district communication with a text alert from me to ensure all families get the information. When this communication comes out, please let your child(ren) know if they have a day off OR if they are going to zoom. :)
So you are prepared for a Virtual Day, I wanted to provide you information now about the schedule for remote learning. Spanish immersion families will have a specific schedule sent to you from your child's immersion teachers, but ALL students will have the hours of 9:00 to 12:15 on any snow day. Before 9:00 a.m. on the first snow day that we have, your child's teacher will make sure you have their zoom link and information.

MAKE SURE YOU GET LAST MINUTE INFORMATION AND REMINDERS: SIGN UP FOR WILBUR'S TEXTS TODAY!

CAR RIDERS
So that we can get our hundreds of cars through the line in a timely manner, even in the extreme cold or rain or snow and regardless of which wing your child is in, we must have cars pull all the way to the front of the line as far as you can go. Again, if this is an issue for you, please pull in a spot and we can cross your child at the brick walkway, or you can come towards the end of the car line time - between 8:55 and 9:00 - since there are less cars coming through at that time.
Another reminder - once you get past the active car line drop off area, there are two lanes of traffic. If you are turning left at the light, you should be on the left side. If you are turning right, on the right. We have had left turners blocking all the right turners because of being in the wrong lane. Thanks for helping us to keep everyone's frustrations down!
We appreciate your help in making our car line as efficient as possible, especially in the cold weather!!!
PIK MY KID
This year, our school will be continuing to use the PikMyKid program to help organize the school car rider dismissal process and improve safety. This program is a phone application downloaded onto your smart phone (found in the app store) and will allow you to notify the school of pick-up changes, authorize others to pick-up your child from the car line, and alert you when your child has been picked up, as well as help organize the car line during pick-up.
The registration process is easy and we ask that all parents register with the phone application as soon as possible, even if your child is a bus rider. All dismissal changes must be done through the PikMyKid app this year. Dismissal changes stop at 3:00 p.m. so we can prepare for a smooth dismissal. With all procedures being tightened up due to COVID restrictions, there will be no exceptions to this rule. I'm sorry in advance for any inconvenience!
Several resources are included below to help you understand how to use the application and assist you with this transition. Please make sure you register with your personal current mobile phone number or the app will not allow you to access your child’s information for security reasons.
If you do not think the school has your mobile number on file or if your child does not appear in your app’s home page, contact support@pikmykid.com mailto:support@pikmykid.com after registration, with your child’s name, school, grade, and updated contact information for you.
Anyone who will be picking up your child should also register themselves with the application. Their screen will be blank and they will not have any authorization until you allow it within the app.
Also, please keep a look out for the new car tags going home in the coming week. Thank You for your cooperation!
