The 5th Wave
Rick Yancey
What I liked about the book
I thing I liked most about this book were the characters. They were well developed and I like their personalities. One of the main characters, Cassie , is a bad-ass, awkward, brave girl with snarky comments. She is just a normal teenage girl with friends and family, but when the Waves start to come everything changes. She is forced to learn how to survive and fight for her life. I love how her character was developed from the time with her family to the end of the book. She is one of my favorite female characters that I have read about. I also like the relationship between Ben and Sammy. They were adorable and they always had each others back. The other relationship I liked was Evan and Cassie. They were just awkward and funny together. Then there was the "Wonderland" part of the book was very interesting. Like seeing the different characters going through it was cool to see them go to Camp Haven. The bear that Sammy and Cassie both talk about is funny too. Then there is the actual story line, which was developed by different POVs. The book switches prospective of each character and it adds different elements to the story that make it even better. I just love the ending too. It was great!
What I did not like about the book
I did not really have anything I did not like about the book. Over all it was a great book. The only thing I could complain about is that the groups that is with Sammy and Ben can get confusing. Sometimes I forgot who was who. The other thing was that everyone always called Ben weak, but he wasn't. At the end it's clear that he is not. Cassie and Vosh both call him weak throughout the book.
Favorite quote
" I am the last one, then I am humanity. And if I am humanity's last war, then I am the battlefield." - Cassie Sullivan
Would I recommend it
Yes I would definitely recommend it to anyone. It had adventure, twists and turns, comic relief, and just funny parts. Remember, most of these characters are from the age of 8-19 so with the ages there are bound to be funny, sad, and happy parts with in the story. After I was done reading it, I was so pumped for the next book! So after reading The 5th Wave, read the next book in the series called The Infinite Sea.
