Some thoughts for the starting school year

Hello Woodsy Owl Families.
Almost to Halloween! Wow this year is flying by. As we approach the rain and snow, just a brief reminder to put you child's name on raincoats and mittens. Our lost and found overflows, and when I can find a name on something and return it, things are much easier for everyone. We have been announcing and showing the lost water bottles during lunchtime, and over half have them have found their way home. Hopefully as we approach rainy season, the umbrellas and coats and mittens will do the same.
Huge kudos to those of you using independent study when your child has to miss five days. This helps the student stay caught up on the work and you not get those pesky letters reminding you about the dangers associated with excessive absences. If you have any questions about this process, please pop in the office , and we can let you know all of the details.
Keep up the good work on the nightly reading, and I hope that many of our adults will join us for the Family Wellness event on October 26th here at Sierra Hills School.
I look forward to seeing many of you there.
Have a great week!

Mrs. Van Sloten, Henry Van Sloten, Olivia Walker and Christian Goodman performing our SHS dignified weekly flag lowering
In an effort to demonstrate and teach the SHS community about proper flag etiquette, the local boy scout troop has some scouts helping raise and lower the flag. On Monday mornings the flag will be raised with dignity and respect. On Fridays the same loyal scouts from Troop 6 will lower the flag in the same manner. I want to thank Scout Leaders Jessie Cuccia and Christian Goodman for there assistance and instruction with this. Also much gratitude to Mrs. Van Sloten who lent a hand in helping the process. Scouts Amaray Cuccia, Olivia Walker and Henry Van Sloten are leading the charge with our new patriotic practice. Above is the Friday lowering of the flag with Mrs. Van Sloten, Henry Van Sloten, Olivia Walker, and Christian Goodman.
We hope to extend this to more days a week as we add to our SHS Flag Crew.
Have a great week.
