A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL BAME
Dear Penguin Families,
Please remember : When your child is late to school, we ask that you accompany them into the front office for a late note. They should not be dropped off at the front door. Safety is our number one priority!
We have a few staffing updates we would like to share with our families:
- Teresa Carter, our data manager, has decided to find work closer to home. We wish her all the best in her new journey!
- Elana Murray, our current receptionist, will be moving into the data manager position this week. We are excited for Ms. Murray!
- Lori Baysden, external candidate, will join the LPES family this week as our new receptionist. Please welcome Ms. Baysden to our school!
- Casey Lanier, our Media Coordinator, has transferred to Olive Chapel Elementary School. Ms. Lanier's mother works at OCE and she could not pass up the opportunity to work alongside family. We wish her the best!
- Alison LeSeuer, external candidate, will begin her tenure as our new Media Coordinator this Wednesday. Ms. LeSeuer (pronounced "LeSir") has served as the Media Coordinator at Holt Magnet School in Durham for the past eight years. We are thrilled to have her join our staff!
Did you know.... Laurel Park earns half of the proceeds from every Strawbridge school picture packet sold? These funds go directly into our school account and help provide materials and supplies throughout the school year! Thank you, in advance, for your support!
Kind Regards,
Mrs. Raleigh Bame
Principal

PBIS - Positive Behavior Support
At Laurel Park Elementary, we believe in using Positive Behavior Support (PBS) to improve our school environment by encouraging and rewarding positive behaviors. In other words, students are rewarded for doing the right thing. At Laurel Park, we give students (and classes ) positive penguins when they have demonstrated positive behaviors.
When a class has earned a certain number of penguins, they get rewarded with things that they have voted on like pajama day or extra recess. As the number of penguins increase, the reward increases as well. In addition to class awards, individuals are recognized each month. Using our acronym, READY, classes vote on nominated students who have demonstrated that particular trait that month. For instance, in February, we will be voting on students who are very "ENGAGED" in learning.
Next month, we will be voting on students who are "ACCOUNTABLE" and take responsibility for their actions. Classes discuss what it means to show "respect", "engagement in learning", "accountability", "determination", and "year long consistency". The rewarded behaviors are linked directly to our penguin pledge. We believe setting expectations for these positive behaviors helps everyone do their best!
Thanks for supporting our goals at home!
