OPENINGS STILL AVAILABLE IN MES PRESCHOOL CLASS!
Parents of children who will be four years old by August 1 are urged to consider entering their child in our new preschool being offered for the 2018-19 school year. This unique pre-kindergarten program, led by a state certified teacher, is a step above and beyond the usual preschool opportunities typically offered to four year olds. Our Pre-K class is designed to help participants bridge the gap between preschool or Headstart and kindergarten. This curriculum-based program will provide students with the fundamental skills necessary to be successful in kindergarten and beyond and will offer enriching, age-appropriate activities to meet the child’s academic, social, and physical needs. Students in the MES Preschool will have a noticeable advantage when they begin kindergarten.
This class will meet all day, every day, Monday – Friday and will follow the regular school calendar and schedule including breaks, holidays, and weather-related closings and delays. Initially there will be a $100 non-refundable registration fee to reserve a spot in this size-limited (18) class. If the child completes the program, this fee will be applied to last (May 15) tuition payment. Tuition payments of $200 each will be due on the 1st and 15th of each month of the school year (August-May) with the first payment being due August 1. Financial assistance for tuition will be offered following an income-based sliding scale similar to that for lunch and book assistance.
If interested in this wonderful opportunity for your four-year-old, please contact the school at 812-654-2922 for more information or to enroll. And, please call soon to avoid disappointment as we expect the few remaining openings to be quickly filled.

Congratulations to Mrs. McKittrick's Third Grade Class!
Our school also collects pull-tabs from beverage cans to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. Mrs. Margaret Craig coordinates the collection drive which includes a contest to see which class can collect the most pull-tabs and the winning class receives free lunch from McDonalds delivered to their classroom.
This is our 20th year collecting pull-tabs. Over the years, we have collected more than 6724 pounds of these tiny bits of aluminum netting $2787.00 for the Ronald McDonald House Children’s Charity. Our school added 217 pounds of tabs this year to the thousands we have collected over the years. Money from the recycling of these tabs is sent to the Ronald McDonald House to aid their work in providing support for families of sick children in the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
Congratulations go out to Mrs. McKittrick and her third graders! They were this year’s winners collecting 54 pounds of pull-tabs. On Monday, they will receive free lunch from McDonalds for their efforts.

Kindergarten Registration - It's Not Too Late!
On April 6th, Milan Elementary held registration for students who will begin Kindergarten in the fall. If you have a child who will be five by August 1 and missed this registration date, we urge you to contact the school at 654-2922 to set up an appointment.
Please do not feel that you have to wait for a birth certificate and/or immunization record. You have until school starts to produce these documents. It is very important that we at least get your child registered and complete the screening process before August so we can order enough supplies and set up class rosters. Thanks!

Keep Saving Those Box Tops for Education
You can make a donation to our school without having to spend any extra money. Just clip labels from products you are probably already buying for your family and send them to school with your child. Our school can redeem them for free products, sporting goods, and even cash.
You can collect BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION from hundreds of products that participate in the program. Our school receives 10¢ for each label collected. This year we earned approximately $1,200 and Program Coordinator Jennifer Block hopes to double it next year!
As an incentive to participate, the PTO runs two collection drives each year in which the classroom bringing in the most Boxtops wins a pizza party. This year’s top collectors were Mrs. Clark’s Third Grade and Mrs. Burton’s First Grade classrooms.
