Kindergarten Newsletter
August 2022
Principal Message
Kindergarten has always been a special time for me. As a teacher, I taught Kindergarten for 8 years. In this time I cherished the opportunity to create a positive experience for all of my learners in their first educational experience. I learned in this time, all learners come to school with various levels of readiness and excitement (or non-excitement). Recently, I was talking with my Aunt Regina, who I lived with when I was in Kindergarten, and she reminded me that on my first visit to the school, I ran away from her and hid under the principal's desk. So, that being said, I understand that every child may feel differently about coming to school for the first time. As I later grew to love school and love learning, I want that experience for all of our children at Doe Run. As we work through the beginning of the year transition, please know we are in this together and the way you start, is not the way you end.
Let's have a great year together,
Mr. Art Paynter, Principal
Kindergarten Meet & Greet - August 24th
We are so excited to welcome our future class of 2035 to Doe Run Elementary on Wednesday, August 24th. Learners and parents will have the opportunity to learn more about Kindergarten, take a tour of the building, and ride a school bus! We will also have a fun activity and popsicles on the playground for our new learners! We are offering two sessions for this event...10-12 or 12-2. You may pick either time to come.
If you have any questions, please call our school office (717) 665-8811.
Open House - August 31st
This is also a good time to be sure your Volunteer forms are up to date. Submitted forms are valid for 5 years.
Kindergarten 1st day - September 6
This is a great time to go over transportation, emails, babysitting, etc so we are all on the same page.
Also - remember if you want to volunteer in the classroom or on a field trip, you must have your clearances in. If you have NOT lived in PA for 10 years, you will need to do the FBI clearance.
If you have any questions - please call the office and we will be happy to answer them.

- Volunteers have been arranged through the PTO to assist with arrival/dismissal/lunch for the first two weeks of school.
- Dismissal Times- The first 3 days of school we will start dismissal 10 minutes early to help ensure the children are on the right buses. Babysitting/Transportation Forms
Kindergarten parents - a parent/guardian must be visible at the bus stop to receive your child. If a neighbor or older sibling (3rd/4th grade) will be getting them off the bus, you must fill out a kindergarten waiver form.
Both these forms are available on website or at this link - https://www.manheimcentral.org/Page/114
If you child will always be a car rider, Big Dreams, or other babysitter - please send in a note to their teacher giving their schedule, or letting us know who will be picking them up. Notes/forms are not saved from year to year as circumstances often change.
