ANNOUNCEMENTS

- Each Information Paragraph in this Newsletter has information covered at the Parent Meeting. Some Dates and Locations have been updated.
- Band is a performance based class. Students who do not bring their instruments to class will complete a writing assignment.
- All Band students will perform a solo for a grade this Semester. They can perform their solo during class or at Solo/Ensemble (Cadet - March 30 at Meridianville) (Con/Sym - April 13 at Hartselle HS). Students will have music options to choose from during class.

- LOST AND FOUND - Please check for lost items. Cloths have been washed and are hanging in the Guard Room.
- SPRING BAND FEES
-Preliminary account statements were sent last week for your review. All spring fees are due by Jan 31, 2019.
-Fundraising profit will be calculated and entered in Charms asap after money is turned in on Monday, Jan 28. It may take until Thursday, Jan 31 to have it all entered, but I will send new statements as soon as that is in the system.
-Orlando trip payments are due. If you are participating in the coffee fundraiser and will by making your last payment after profits are posted, please let me know asap.
-Check your Charms account now and let me know of any issues you have.
-Remember when you write a check, please include 2 phone numbers and a drivers license number on the face of the check.

Congratulations to the JV Winterguard who placed 2nd in a field of 14 guards in their class at their very first competition in Tennessee on Saturday.

Cadet/Beginner Band
Students learned about dynamics last week. Please ask them about what they learned! I’m sure they would love to talk to you about all the knowledge they are gaining!
Reminder: Students have homework every week. They are supposed to practice everyday for 15 minutes at home OR 3 days a week for 25 minutes. This is the only way for us to progress in class at the rate we need to. Please remind and encourage your students to complete their band homework.

Fundraiser
Coffee fundraiser forms and money are due on Monday. All bags of coffee are $15 and our profit is $5. This will go directly into your student’s account to help pay your fees or to begin saving money to pay for fees next year. Please wrap up your selling today and send it in tomorrow.
Springs Fees and Paperwork
Spring fees and renewed Instrument Rental Agreements are due January 31st.
Cadet Percussion
Percussion students will begin to transition to the school Mallet equipment in class as they memorize their notes. Their bell kits should remain at home to be used for practicing and completing homework assignments.

Indoor Drumline/ Percussion Ensemble
- Practice this week on Monday and Wednesday 3:30pm - 5:00pm
- Coffee Fundraiser Orders and Payment are Due Monday!
I know we had a short informal parent meeting last semester to go over some of the details and changes to this year's Discovery Middle School Indoor Drumline. Unfortunately, I was not able to be at that meeting since we had a BJHS fundraiser that evening as well. I would like to have an official parent meeting in order to go over logistical information and forms, collect fees, and answer any questions you may have. We will have this meeting on Feb. 4th at 5:30 in the DMS band room. Please make plans to attend.
We will be collecting fees on this day as well. The fees for this year will be $275. This covers all registration fees, instruction, music arranging, mallets, show shirt, transportation, and any misc. expenses. You are more then welcome to pay this amount all at once. However, we are asking that $150 is due by Feb. 4th, and the remaining $125 is due by Mar. 4th. Given the current government shutdown and it's effects on our community, please just communicate any financial concerns with us and we can come up with a suitable payment plan.
I have setup a Google Classroom page for the group in order to send out announcements and musical changes. The code is 72165gs. Parents are more then welcome to join but please also encourage your student to join.
The staff is very excited about the upcoming season and I look forward to meeting many of you in person. Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns.

Snap Raise (February) - Snap is an online donation campaign that allows our program to receive donations from our networks and supporters. Publix Fundraiser
To sign-up, you’ll need to go to www.publix.com or the Publix app on your phone. You will need to setup or sign-in to your existing account. Choose “My Publix Partner” and enter Discovery Middle School Bands.
Kroger Fundraiser
Signing up for Kroger rewards is one of the easiest ways you can fundraise for the band. You can link your existing card to DMS Bands by following the information below:
Registration Instructions:
The Kroger Community Rewards program is an ideal way to support your favorite non-profit or charity organization. The program allocates funds to participating organizations based on the purchases that registered members, family and friends of the organization have made at Kroger using their Kroger Plus card. Each individual should enroll their Kroger Plus Cards online at the Kroger secure website, www.krogercommunityrewards.com and then choose the organization they wish to support.
To use the Kroger Community Rewards Program:
1. Register your Kroger Plus card online at krogercommunityrewards.com
• Be sure to have your Kroger Plus card handy (you will need the number)
• If you do not yet have a Kroger Plus card, they are available at the customer service desk at any Kroger.
• Click on Sign In/Register
• Click on SIGN UP TODAY in the ‘New Customer?’ box (unless you have previously registered online).
• Sign up for a Kroger Rewards Account by entering zip code, clicking on favorite store, entering your email address and creating a password, agreeing to the terms and conditions
• You will then get a message to check your email inbox and click on the link within the body of the email to finalize card registration.
• Click on My Account and use your email address and password to proceed to the next step.
2. Link your card with DMS Bands
• Log into your account at krogercommunityrewards.com
• Click on Edit Kroger Community Rewards information and input your Kroger Plus card Number.
• Update or confirm your information.
• Enter the code NX095 and click on confirm.
• To verify you are enrolled correctly, you will see your organization’s name on the right side of your information page.
Planet Fundraiser:
Download the Planet Fundraiser app and choose Discovery Middle School Band.
Every time you shop at a local merchant (such as Target or Shaggy’s), simply open the app and snap a pic of your receipt. You can also choose to shop at various online retailers through the app. Planet Fundraiser will give back to DMS Bands!
