Cheatham Family Organization News
March 2022 - Volume 4
A Message from your President
Greetings Cheatham Family Members,
This is the first newsletter for 2022, so I want to start with sending the warmest wishes and the most hugs to the Cheatham family. I pray 2022 has started in the right direction for you and your entire family!
It has been several months since our virtual family reunion and connection to the entire family. So, I want to personally take a moment to thank you for attending our first Virtual Cheatham Family Reunion in 2021. While we can certainly say we've never done that before, tough times have called for new innovations. Now, more than ever before, we know how important it is to ensure strong family bonds.
The Bible says in Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." So, as we move into Spring and the summer months, let's walk in our purpose and calling, for we know that the best is yet to come with God on our side.
We are the mighty descendants of Henry and Amy Cheatham. Let's continue to put our trust in God today and forevermore!
Take some time to review the Cheatham Family website at www.thecheathamfamily.tribalpages.com and give thanks for our awesome family.
Again, I thank God for each of you!
Your Humble President,
Karen Barnes
Cheatham Family Reunion Update
The Cheatham Family Organization has decided NOT to move forward with a National Reunion this summer out of an abundance of caution. We will stay on our regular reunion schedule with an in-person reunion in California in 2023. HOWEVER, we will have Local Chapter Connection Events this summer! Each Local Chapter President will have a special event planned for their local chapter members in the summer. It will be a chance for all local chapter members to connect and enjoy what your local chapter offers. We want all family members to participate. Additional details will follow soon. This will be an event you don't want to miss!
IN-PERSON National Family Reunion in California 2023!
Here are a few updates on our Cheatham Family Organization top initiatives:
1. Cheatham Family Round-Up
Our Local Chapter Connection Events will allow each chapter to fellowship and engage all local chapter members with resources and information important for all members. In addition, the Local Chapter Presidents will be able to share their plans and how each member can participate in their local organization.
2. Preserve Family Land and Cemetery
We are continuing to seek the cemetery as a historic landmark. We are in the process of completing the needed designation application. Karen Rogers, Taryn Raines, and I have met with the Linden County Historical Committee several times in the last six months. During our March 12 meeting, several members of the Linden committee were able to take a field trip with us to the cemetery. They could see the cemetery's condition and guide the next steps. Additionally, we hired a contractor, Mr. Lateef, to complete the needed name survey and locator map that you must attach to the designation application. These events are positive steps toward our goal of preserving the final resting place for many of our ancestors.
3. Cheatham Family Reunion Organization Exploratory Committee
D'Ante Tillis, Chair of The Cheatham Family Reunion Exploratory Committee, regularly attends our quarterly leadership meetings to provide a voice for the exploratory committee. Additionally, he can hear what each chapter president shares about reunion ideas from their local chapter members. This level of communication will allow D'Ante to share any new destination recommendations provided to his committee.
