7th grade trumpet player
Hellstern Middle School
Silas competed with over 70 jr. high trumpet players (8th & 9th graders) in North West Arkansas. He place 1st band, 3rd chair overall! He participated in the Jr. High All-Region Band Clinic and his group performed a full concert by starting rehearsals only 1 day beforehand.
Silas also performed at a National Trumpet Competition back in December. He was selected as one of 17 to perform in the live rounds as a semifinalist in the junior solo division. He will compete again in March in Mechanicsburg, PA. Way to go, Silas!
Instrument Cleaning
Here are some cleaning tips for cleaning mouthpieces.
Please clean your mouthpiece at least every week to keep it from getting nasty.
Brass mouthpieces:
- Put in boiling water with tongs, then ice cold water to cool. (Parent assistance needed)
- Put in the dishwasher.
- Hot water with dish soap (blue Dawn preferred)
- Lysol/Clorox wipes. Be sure to rinse with water after wiping. You don't want those chemicals to touch your face. These kill viruses, cold, flu, strep, etc.
- Alcohol wipes or green spray. You can get a big bottle of green alcohol for under $1. Put in a small spray bottle and keep it in your case. We sell the spray in the small bottles for $4.
Clarinet & Saxophone mouthpieces:
- Never put in hot water. It will turn them a gross brown/green.
- Use blue Dawn dish soap and room temperature water.
- Lysol/Clorox wipes - These kill viruses, cold, flu, strep, etc. Rinse with water after using wipes.
