A.M.P.S. Update
As we near the last couple of months of school, the AMPS board is busy supporting Mr. Basaraba and the band activities and planning for next year. There will be an AMPS Meeting on Monday, April 25th at 4:15 pm. It's a hybrid meeting where you can join us in-person in the Band Room, or online through Google Meet. Mr. Basaraba is setting up the Google Meet link for the meeting. We will be discussing upcoming band activities (Festival, Year End Concerts, Ardrossan Parade) and we would love to have band parents join us to share their ideas.
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported the VIP Foods fundraiser! It was a great success for the band students as they earned personal fundraising credits. Thank you to everyone who helped with order pick up on such a chilly night! A big shout out to our Fundraising Director, Stacy DaSilva, who did a fantastic job of arranging this fundraiser (even when she was terribly sick)! Thank you!
We are starting to do some planning for next year and we are looking for band parents who are interested in sitting on the AMPS Board of Directors. Our AGM and elections aren't held until the Fall but if you are interested in supporting the music programs and organizing activities and fundraisers, we'd love to have you on the Board! A number of board members will be phasing out of the school this year so we need YOU to continue this great work! All positions are open for elections (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Special Events Director, Casino Director, Fundraising Director and Director at Large). If you are interested in any of the positions or you'd like more information, please contact the AMPS President, Celeste Burdinsky, at AMPSpres@gmail.com. We can't do this without you!
Yours in music,
AMPS Board of Directors
Student Forum - Feedback from students
"The Student Forum was awesome!! It was a great experience to gather with other students and hear their EIPS journey and how it impacted them on an academic and person level. I enjoyed the discussions and the commitment of the EIPS members to bettering students well-being and overall time in school. It’s encouraging that school division values a fresh perspective on education and what we as young adults really need, not just what they think we need. I’m very grateful for having this opportunity and being able to present my point of view and how we can makes schools a comfortable pace for accomplishment and success!!" ~ Nicole B.
"As a student in grade 12, I felt that my opinion was actually valued and listened to. It was amazing to see EIPS take such an initiative to make school a better place for everyone. The topics covered throughout the day were very important and extremely relevant to the world we live in today. I feel they should implement student feedback forums in every school. Listening to students is the only way to make the education system better. As for the one question I would ask students: What do you think is missing in your education, and what can we do to fix it?" ~ Tayler J.

A big THANK YOU to EIPS Volunteers
National Volunteer Week takes place April 24-30. On behalf of the Board of Trustees at Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS), I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all EIPS volunteers and school families for your support over the last 24 months. Collectively, we've had to react, shift and adapt throughout the various COVID-19 waves and changing public-health restrictions.
Despite that, EIPS volunteers showed tremendous flexibility, commitment and creativity to ensure schools continue providing exceptional education and opportunities for all students.
So, thank you for your time, efforts and support. It's inspiring and making a difference in the lives of students. I encourage everyone to join in this year's National Volunteer Week by celebrating the hundreds of volunteers within EIPS and reflecting on the role of volunteers in our future.
Trina Boymook
Chair, EIPS Board of Trustees

Did you know the average salary of a Power Engineer in Alberta is $78,000?
Women Building Futures (WBF) is proud to partner with Inter Pipeline and Pembina Pipelines to offer a Power Engineer Career Accelerator Program (PECA) to encourage more women to enter a career that has traditionally been under-represented.
The Career Accelerator is a 2-week sponsored program to prepare students to begin a 2-year program at NAIT or Lakeland College. While completing the NAIT or Lakeland College program, students will have the opportunity to attend paid co-op placements with Inter Pipeline or Pembina Pipelines. Students will be required to pay for their tuition to NAIT or Lakeland but upon completion of the program, they will be given the opportunity to apply for full-time roles with Inter Pipeline and Pembina Pipelines.
We’d love your help in spreading awareness about this unique program and to help position power engineering as a fulfilling career opportunity for young women.
