Backpack Donations

We are looking for new/gently used backpacks. At times, we have students who don't have a backpack or theirs may break while at school so we have used up our supply of extra backpacks. If you have any backpacks at home that are not being used and you're looking for a good home for them, we'd gladly take them off your hands! You can drop them off anytime in the front office - just let staff know it is a donation. Thank you!

8th Grade Academic Excellence

Eighth grade students that achieved a grade-point average of 3.66 or higher for Semester 1 of this school year are all invited to take part in our Academic Excellence Ceremony, which will be held in-person at Edgewood Middle School on Thursday, May 26, from 7:00-8:00 PM. Families of students who qualified for either of these awards received an email earlier this week from Principal Rob Reetz.

In addition, students that attended Edgewood all three years while maintaining a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, and correctly answered 85% or more of reading and math questions on state assessments, will also be honored with a Presidential Award.

The celebration will take place in the Performance Gym beginning at 7:00 PM. Principal Rob Reetz will briefly address students and families, followed by student speakers, and the recognition of awards. A brief reception with refreshments will follow the ceremony in the Edgewood Café.

8th Grade Celebration Day

The 8th graders will be going on a field trip to Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis (specifically Wabun Park) for their celebration day on Tuesday, June 7.

The students will enjoy a talent show in the morning, followed by yearbook distribution, then the field trip. During the field trip, students will enjoy a picnic and a variety of activities including guided hikes, outdoor games and a scavenger hunt.

Please complete and submit this electronic permission slip, if you haven't already done so, allowing your student to attend the field trip.

Students should wear clothing and shoes that can get wet, and should bring sunscreen and a refillable water bottle. Lunch will be provided.

If you'd like to chaperone, please Sign-up here as parent volunteers (as many as we can get) are critical to the success of this event. While we will have teachers on hand to supervise and re-direct kids, there are many parts of the park that, for safety reasons, are off-limits to students unless they are on a guided tour. Parent chaperones will be stationed in key areas of the park, creating a clear perimeter for students.

Below is a tentative schedule of the celebration day:

Schedule

7:45 - Take attendance in 1st period classes, set expectations for day

8:15 - Talent show and Yearbook distribution in the performance gym

9:30 - Load buses to leave for the park

10:00 - Arrive at park

10:05 - Park Boundaries and Expectations relayed to students on the bus

10:10 - Free time

12:00 - Lunch

12:30-1:30 - Free time

1:30 - Board the buses

2:00 - Return to Edgewood

2:25 - Depart for home

Please contact your student’s dean if you have any questions or concerns.

NOTE: Students who did not order a yearbook will be able to purchase a limited supply available at $20 each. If you have any questions on the yearbook, please contact Ms. Mildenberger at shannon.mildenberger@moundsviewschools.org.

8th Grade Talent Show Auditions

Eighth grade students are invited to participate in our Talent Show on Tuesday, June 7, the morning of their Celebration Day. The sign-up sheets are posted on the Choir room door and acts can include dancing, singing, musical instruments. skits, or monologues. Auditions will be held on Monday, May 23, after school. Questions, please contact Ms. Cummings at elizabeth.cummings@moundsviewschools.org.

New Payment System for Meal Accounts

The Nutrition Services Department will be introducing a new system for meal accounts next school year, which will replace PayPams. All account balances will be transferred to the new system automatically, but families will need to create an account on the new platform in order to continue adding funds. Stay tuned for more information in the coming months.

EPAT (EW PARENTS AND TEACHERS)

EPAT Information

Edgewood Parents & Teachers (EPAT) is an organization in which parents, as well as Edgewood (EW) teachers and administration work together to help meet the needs of the EW students and staff. This includes funding for EPAT-sponsored student events, providing grants to teachers for items not covered in the school's budget, and staff appreciation events.

We understand that not all families may be in a position to give right now, but if you have the means, please consider a direct donation to EPAT. There are several ways to contribute, but direct donation maximizes the dollars available to support our students and teachers! Here are our current fundraisers:
