Some important information for this week....
OSR Reviews
On Monday, Heather and I will be spending the day locked in her office completing thorough OSR reviews for every single child in the school. This will allow us to ensure that we have a good understanding of current services and equipment currently in use by every student. It will also allow us the chance to consider additional supports that may be put in place. Please join me in welcoming retired Principal Sheryl Hunter, who will be in to support for the day. She will be doing all my usual duties and supporting in any area I normally would. Thank you for kindly not coming to the SERT office as we will be hard pressed to complete this huge undertaking in one day! Overview sheets of needs, resources and services will be provided to each homeroom teacher once we're finished.
IEP considerations
A reminder to continue to track progress on the IEP alternate page goals (transitions, self-reg, etc.). If students are struggling with a goal, this is a time to revisit and perhaps consider a sub-goal if the current one is too challenging. If a student has met a goal successfully now, then it's time to consider what is a reasonable next step from now until February in the way of a new goal. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Working alone in the building
Just a reminder to please exercise caution when working alone in the building, especially on the weekend. Please always have a cell on you at all times, in case of slips and falls, etc. If you ever need any emergency phone numbers, they are located in John's office on the bulletin board.
Technology Cart
We now have our new technology cart - please let's have both in use as much as possible. Although they are both plugged in in Katie's room at night (thank you Katie!), they should be out roaming the halls in all K - 6 programs. Let's make great use of this new HUGE investment of money :)
Lockdown Drill
As long as there are no emergencies, Constable McCurdy will be joining us on Wednesday for our first Lockdown drill of the year. Please make sure you review the protocol - posted in previous Monday Memos and also in your Emergency Plan (given on the August PA day and in every Emergency Bag). If you have any questions, please make sure you let me know before Wednesday!
Walkie talkies
When you go out on duty, please make sure you always take a walkie with you. There are 2 available in the primary wing (math/science cupboard) and 2 in the main office. Kindergarten has one shared between the two rooms. Although I try to always be outside, at times I'm not and we need to get a hold of you - or you need to talk to each other. All-calls are not an option as they can't be heard everywhere, and are upsetting to younger students. Thank you for ensuring that you have a walkie at all times when on duty outside.
Front Showcase
Anyone, anyone???!! Please let me know if you can help to fill the void.
Beyond the Bag
Have you ever heard of this great program? Here's a little info:
We’re excited to announce that the Plastic Bag Grab Challenge is back for 2020 along with some exciting new activities to keep your school/classroom engaged year-round. To celebrate the program's fifth year anniversary, we're excited to go Beyond the Bag!
In addition to the Plastic Bag Grab Challenge in April, we have partnered with Canadian Geographic on a plastic engagement program called 10,000 Changes. The program brings our teacher partners monthly learning modules that explore key themes and concepts connected with plastic use and waste.
Education is a key initiative of 10,000 Changes, and offers a series of learning packages that can be adapted to any grade level (K-12). Utilizing these packages are how participating schools will go Beyond the Bag and kick off the fifth Plastic Bag Grab Challenge campaign.
You can find more information at https://plasticbaggrab.com/beyond-the-bag. If you are interested in spearheading this great initiative, please let me know.
December Pizza Lunch
Last chance to sign up for our next Pedal for Hope Pizza and Salad day on Thursday, December 12th. Orders will go in Monday morning.
The Paper Bag Princess
Please continue to monitor the payments and forms for the Paper Bag Princess. We need to know well ahead of time if there are going to be students who are not attending so we can consider alternate plans. Forms and payment are due by this Thursday. Recognizing that you can no longer collect money after Monday, I will come around on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning to collect any outstanding funds.
Festive Fridays
This Friday is the third of our official Festive Fridays. Let's show some great school spirit and rock the Fuzzy PJ's this Friday!
Just one more thing.....
