Growing with God... Oct. 15, 2022
Be strong and steadfast! Do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD, your God, is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
Dear St. Michael Preschool Families & Friends,
Firefighters are one of our community heroes! And during the month of October, our preschoolers are learning about fire prevention through various books, songs, and activities. This week, our local firefighters from the Cary Fire Department will visit to teach the children about how they keep us safe.
To help ensure your home and family are protected, we encourage you to count your smoke detectors with your little ones (making sure they are working), remember to make a home fire escape plan, and practice stop, drop, and roll. You can visit Sparky, the Fire Dog for more family-friendly activities.
St. Michael the Archangel, Pray for Us!
Joyfully in Christ,
Lisa Ciesla
Preschool Director

On our Fall Festival days, your child's teachers will organize fun activities to celebrate including crafts, games, trick-or-treating, and the always popular costume parade and music sing-along with Miss Karen.
Parents are invited to attend after drop-off at 9:45 am on your child's assigned day.
On October 26 & 27, the 3, 4, and 5-year-old children may wear a costume to school. Please guide your child to select a costume with nonviolent themes, and please do not send in accessories. Please have your child wear clothes underneath the costume or bring a change of clothes to school.

IMPORTANT UPDATES & REMINDERS
Parent Health Alert Communication Sent on 10/12/22
Dear St. Michael Preschool Families,
I want to inform you that we have seen an increase in the number of children and teachers who have been home sick this week. Currently, there are no confirmed COVID cases, however, I ask you to please monitor your child closely for any COVID-like symptoms: including congestion or runny nose, cough, headache, fever or chills, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, diarrhea, or vomiting.
Please be aware, that there are multiple illnesses going around with COVID-like symptoms, including RSV and other viruses.
We also learned of two children within the same class with confirmed Hand, Foot, and Mouth. Please note, that if your child is in the class with those children, you already received a separate communication.
Hand, Foot, and Mouth is a viral illness that commonly affects young children. Symptoms usually begin with a fever, reduced appetite, sore throat, and a feeling of being unwell. A skin rash and/or mouth sores may also develop on the palms of the hands and/or soles of the feet. If you have any questions, please contact your pediatrician.
Please help us to keep our students, teachers, staff, and entire preschool community healthy and staff. It is important that even with a negative COVID test, children should not come to school if they are unwell as they will be sent home!
Be assured that while children are in the building, teachers are frequently sanitizing and disinfecting surfaces and toys in the classroom and our contracted cleaning crew thoroughly cleans and disinfects each evening.
We thank you for your continued support and prayers. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. God bless, and be assured of my prayers for you and your family.
St. Michael the Archangel, pray for us.
In Christ,
Lisa Ciesla, Director
LET'S WORK TOGETHER TO KEEP OUR COMMUNITY HEALTHY!
If a child develops one or more of the following symptoms: congestion or runny nose, headache, fever or chills, cough, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, diarrhea, or vomiting, families have three options:
- stay home for 5 days, and return wearing a mask for 5 more days, OR
- get a negative COVID test, which must be submitted to the preschool office (photo of the home test), OR
- get a note of alternate diagnosis from the pediatrician
COVID GUIDANCE UPDATED – On September 6, the Childcare/Preschool COVID Toolkit was updated.
PLEASE REMEMBER, that by sending a child to school, parents are affirming that their child is in good health and recognize that if there is any doubt, they should keep their child home. We thank you in advance for monitoring your child's health daily and for your understanding as we work to maintain a safe and healthy environment for our entire preschool community.
Asthma & Allergies
If your child has asthma and/or chronic allergies, which typically include a frequent cough or runny nose, we will need a note from the doctor documenting the alternate diagnosis for the COVID-like symptoms.
We thank you for your continued support in adhering to our health protocols to keep our community safe.
Driving and Parking Lot Safety
Also, only cars with a designated license plate or placard should be in a handicapped space. Thank you for your cooperation!
PLEASE SAVE THE SWEET & SUGARY TREATS FOR HOME
Allergy Sensitive Snacks
- Children will bring their own snack to school. We ask that it be just one or two healthy items that can be easily enjoyed by your child.
- Snacks may NOT contain peanuts/nuts or peanut/nut products. This includes foods that have been produced/processed in a plant with nut products.
- Avoid potential choking hazards - all grapes, cherries, and mini tomatoes need to be cut in half. Popcorn, hard candy, or sugary snacks are not permitted.

MUSIC & MOVEMENT
Hello, Preschool families!
October is one of my FAVORITE months of the whole school year! The hot days of summer melt away and cool, crisp weather arrives! We will be singing and dancing about Fall, Halloween, leaves, pumpkins, spiders, and how God made animals-just to name a few.
Here are a few songs that we will learn together in music this month. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like me to send you a song! I am happy to share any of my songs with you.
Happy Fall and God bless you and your families!

This meaningful family experience was organized by our very own St. Michael Preschool mom, Caroline Laski. Thank you, Caroline, for all your enthusiastic efforts to bring this wonderful activity to our community!
PopUp StoryWalk Cary is a fun community program exhibiting recreational reading adventures in our local parks. Enjoy some time outdoors while reading children's stories with your family as you stroll, run, or skip to find each page along a trail. Events typically "pop up" for 3 weeks & frequently feature fresh selections, inspiring families to follow our installations at various locations around town.
