Sophomores Participate in NAMES Program to Combat Bullying
On October 30th, Sophomore students participated in a powerful program about name calling and other mean-spirited behavior. The program was presented by student leaders in conjunction with the Anti-Defamation League. The NAMES program (Names Can Really Hurt Us) focuses on creating a safe space to discuss differences and diversity, and empowering students to consider the roles all individuals play in the act of mean-spirited behavior as a target/victim, an ally, a bystander, or the aggressor.
On Wednesday, November 7 (A Day) NMHS will host a presentation from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut called HEAT (Heroin Education Action Team) for all students. This program was recommended by NMPD and aims to increase understanding of the heroin/opioid abuse epidemic and how we can work together to combat this growing problem. This presentation was originally scheduled for 5/21 last year but was cancelled as a result of the days lost to the storm. The schedule for the day is as follows:
- Period 2: Grades 11 & 12
- Period 3 (@ 10:28 a.m.): Grades 9 & 10
FRESHMAN Foundations Program
Naviance is the website vehicle all students use for college and career exploration. The parent and student will each receive their own registration code to enable access to the website. We will also be assisting freshman to set up an individual College Board account. Students will need this account to acquire their PSAT scores and schedule SAT exams in their junior and senior years. Parent registration codes will be emailed home with a Naviance link.
