The Christmas holiday is used to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
Christians will celebrate Christmas on December 25th while Orthodox Christians celebrate around January 7th.
Children will perform "Posada's" which are reenactments of when Mary and Joseph are searching for shelter, these will be performed from the start of the Christmas holiday, December 16th until Christmas Eve (Noche Buena), December 24th.
Most people exchange gifts and have Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve, the 24th, and then spend Christmas Day relaxing and eating leftovers with family and friends.
Traditionally people eat tamales instead of turkey and with bacalao and romeritos, bacalao meaning cod and romeritos consisting of pieces of wild plant known as seepweed... this is normally eaten in the northern and southern parts of Mexico.
El Nacimiento
Also known as a Nativity Scene, these are set up as a representation of Jesus after his birth.
Poinsettias
A traditional flower used to decorate for the Christmas holiday.
Feliz Navidad
Meaning "Merry Christmas" in Spanish.
