Continued Efforts Appreciated!

Please Continue to:

  • Have a water bottle for school

  • Let the school nurse know if you or someone in your family is being tested for covid. If being tested, please do not come to school until you have the results!

  • Keep an extra mask (or two) in your locker to ensure you have one when you need it.
  • Wash them once in a while, or even better, regularly!
  • Rotate masks, or grab an extra in order to rotate.
  • Review the chart below, so we can continue to limit and reduce the spread.

Meals from the Heartland Service Day

Students participated in an excellent service learning opportunity set up by our middle school student council. All students bagged thousands of meals for Meals from the Heartland one day during their Social Studies classes, and we could not have pulled it off without a sizable grant from the Pella Historical Foundation. Last spring this event was unable to take place due to school shutting down, so it was extremely rewarding to see all our students working together this year to pull it off!

Pray for Nate Bracelets Give Back

Middle School students, staff, and families have shown their support for 7th grade student, Nathan Van Engen, by purchasing Pray for Nate bracelets. Nathan returned to school in late October after a successful surgery to treat a rare, aggressive cancer. We are all celebrating Nate being cancer free, and the Student Council was excited to give all the proceeds to Nate's family from the bracelet sales. The bracelets were donated by the Identity Group, which allowed our student council to provide Nate's family all the money they earned right before Thanksgiving to help with costs his family has incurred.

The Counselor Connection

Are you or your student struggling this season? You are not alone. Covid Recovery Iowa is providing free virtual counseling and assistance for anyone affected by COVID-19. They also have weekly virtual support groups for pre-teens, teens, and parents talking about stress and the impact of COVID-19. Please contact Chelsea.Siefken@pathwaysb.org if you would like to join.

Visit the public Facebook page Parenting in a Pandemic where you’ll find daily questions that you can ask your child to help connect you, ground you, and spark conversations. Along with other helpful tools for parenting in a pandemic!

The next counseling small group will be beginning after the first of the year. The Social Club will focus on identifying communication styles, practicing positive communication skills, self-advocacy, and conflict resolution. If you would like me to speak to your child about participating, please email me.

Sincerely,

Jourdan Van Wyk, School Counselor

Pray for Nate Bracelets Support Nate's Family

The student council partnered with the Identity Group to raise a large sum of money for Nathan VanEngen and his family. Nathan was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, and the student council wanted to support them and give back. Nathan is a valued member of our student council, and he and his family were grateful for the donation. We would also like to thank The Identity Group for their support in this endeavor.
