Naglieri Testing Coming Soon for 2nd Graders!
This year, all elementary schools in Bend-La Pine will be using the Naglieri Non-Verbal Ability Test (NNAT) to screen students for possible identification for intellectual giftedness. The NNAT is a measure of nonverbal reasoning and problem solving, independent of educational curricula and cultural and/or language background. All second graders will take this 30-minute test, as well as students in grades 3-5 who are new to the district and have not taken a similar test.
If you are a parent of a student in grades K-1 who is demonstrating signs of intellectual giftedness, please consult with your child’s teacher. We will also administer this test to younger students who are strong candidates for identification as Talented and Gifted (TAG).
PTO Meeting Thursday 2/18 @ 6pm
Hello, Jewell PTO!
We'll have a general membership meeting this Thursday at 6PM in the school library. We'd love to see you there.
As always, we'll have great updates from our school administration and a chance for Q&A. We'll also cover some upcoming events and activities such as providing food during the parent/teacher conferences, Spring events, and the CARNIVAL!
Last month's meeting was incredibly fun, and reminded me why I joined the PTO in the first place. We heard from two different staff members with special funding requests, and thanks to each of your fundraising efforts, we were able to fund both requests!
We will purchase four sets of new reading curriculum material. The thoughtful proposal from our dedicated staff of reading specialists is available to any PTO member who would like to read it (and feel pretty darn proud).
We will match a grant that our [National Award Winning] phys ed teacher received and purchase seven skateboards and helmet/pad sets. These have special wheels so you can ride them inside a school gym, and will help create a before or after school skateboard club.
The minutes from our last meeting are available for you on the PTO bulletin board in the front office.
Hope to see you Thursday evening!
