11 - Assignment #4 - Mimicking Miner
From your brainstorm, CHOOSE ONE "ritual" to create your own description of a ritual of the Nacirema. Your piece must be a minimum of 150-200 words. You must include the following:
- Title that reflects the topic of your piece: For example" _________________ among/of the Nacirema"
- A narrow, focused topic (the more specific your topic is, the easier it will be to write about)
- Word choice and description: words that make the piece feel as though it is serious in nature yet the reader can still “get” your message
Write your piece using Google Docs. When you are finished, share it with Hoyt. Hoyt will provide feedback before moving onto the next step.
REMEMBER our analysis of Miner's use of loaded language and sensationalism:
Loaded Language: words with positive or negative suggestions that may cause strong emotions in the audience; reporters show their own opinions when they use loaded language
Sensationalism: the deliberate use of material or methods that stimulate viewers’ interest, curiosity, or reactions, especially through exaggeration
