Happy New Year Cougar Families!
Dear Cottonwood Families,
Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed the winter break and were able to spend time with your friends and family. I certainly enjoyed the time with my friends and family. Having the time to snuggle with my little ones (even it was only for a few minutes at a time), read a few extra chapters from my book, and watch a few movie favorites with my husband was just what my heart needed this break.
As many of you do, I always start January with reflection. I reflect on the previous year and begin to set new goals for the next year. I reflected on my journey so far as Principal, and again, I am humbled to have this opportunity to serve as the Principal of Cottonwood Elementary School. I have appreciated the collegial partnership with each of you in order to meet the needs of every child, every day, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting Cottonwood, supporting our teachers and believing in the work we do.
As we enter the next few months, our weather can be unpredictable. Please know we monitor the weather through weatherbug.com, and students come inside if they are getting wet due to snow or rain. If the wind-chill temperature is 20 degrees or below, students will come directly into the building in the morning and recess will be inside. Please make sure your child comes dressed appropriately for the cold weather. In the event of a weather delay or closure, you will be notified via the Blackboard Connect phone message system. CCSD will also post the notification on our district and school websites, Facebook, Twitter and notify the news media. Read how the district makes the decision to delay or close schools.
Again, thank you for your continued support and Happy New Year.
Sincerely,
Katie Johnson

Please Join Us!
In response to our last School Accountability Committee (SAC) Meeting, we will be having a parent information night on January 17th from 6-7pm. We will be discussing the important topic of school safety, and our Security Coordinator, Mr. Steve Wallisch with be joining us. We hope to provide more detailed information about safety in our school. You do not have to be a member of the School Accountability Committee to attend; all are welcome to join us.
Please join me in welcoming our new school nurse, Mrs. Carrie Revers. Mrs. Revers is coming to us from another Cherry Creek School District Elementary School, Cherry Hills Village. During our interview with her, I appreciated her attention to detail, emphasis on children, and her kind, calming demeanor. Mrs. Revers had the opportunity to connect with and spend time with Nurse Barb in our clinic. During this time, she was able to meet several of our students and staff. We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Carrie Revers to Cottonwod Creek.
From the Nurse’s office…
Hi there! I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Carrie Revers, and I am taking over for Nurse Barb. I know she will be missed, so I intend to attempt to make the transition as smooth as possible. I have been a RN in the district for ten years and have raised two children of my own in Cherry Creek Schools. I remember these precious years and how much fun they were but also how challenging they could be as well. I hope that I can help support your child’s learning during this period by supporting their health. Please feel free to stop by or call me if there is anything I can do to help.
All the best in 2019,
Carrie Revers, RN, BSN

Boodle Boxes...A big THANK YOU!
Cottonwood Creek Elementary staff & students,
I am Sergeant First Class Venegas and I just received several care packages from Cottonwood Creek Elementary. On behalf of the Troopers that will be enjoying these amazing packages, I just wanted to take a moment and say THANK YOU!!! Your care packages are by far the best I have ever seen. Several of my Troopers are spending this holiday season away from their family for the first time in their life. Your support makes all the difference in the world and has a huge impact that brightens our spirits. Thank you again.
I have attached a picture of some of the Troopers that will be enjoying these packages.

Happy New Year, Cottonwood families. Thank you for the holiday gift card. I so appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity, and am thrilled to be part of this learning community.
I am looking forward to innovation and learning happening in the library in this new year. In January, students will be working on creating videos in our green screen room, classes will be building their problem-solving and teamwork skills by using our district’s breakout boxes, and research at many grade levels is going to commence. I cannot wait to get started!

From the Music Room
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. The Fifth Grade informance and Winter Choir and Band Concert were wonderfully successful as students showed of their musical skills. Having two very different formats, these presentations shared student work in very different ways. We hope all who attended both enjoyed themselves and learned something! Coming up next is the Fourth Grade informance on Thursday, February 7. Fourth Grade parents, keep an eye out for an email from me detailing the call time and dress. Also coming up is the after school choir for Second and Third graders. There will be a Tuesday group and a Thursday group that will rehearse separately most of the year, and then combine for the last couple rehearsals before the concert on May 2. Second and Third Grade parents, keep an eye out for a registration email toward the end of this month.
