Toy/Game Day

Tuesday of this week we spent some of our day learning through play. The class was invited to bring in toys or games from home to play with. It was so fun to see what the class likes to do away from school. I couldn't be more proud of them. Keep up the good work class!

NWEA Results!

The district has sent out results for our winter NWEA testing! Please let me know if you have any questions about this data. Please remember that it is one data point of many that we track.

News from our Cardinal Cafe

When we return in January we will be starting the lunch meal schedule on Week 1.

Daily Snacks

Please consider sending a snack to school with your child each day. Our approved list (to keep all of our Cardinals safe - especially those living with food allergies) include:

Pepperidge Farm Goldfish

We appreciate donations for our students that are without a snack, as well. Thank you for considering!

Background Checks & Anti-Bullying Video

All who desire to volunteer, chaperone fieldtrips, or eat lunch in the cafeteria must have an approved background check on file and complete the Anti-bullying video. Background checks are good for 3 years. If you have questions about your background check, please contact the TCE office @ (317) 594-4310.

We Are Learning...

Reading & Writing

During reading and writing this week many students continued working on their research and writing their books. Those who have completed theirs have been working on adding nonfiction text features to help their audience further their understanding of their chosen topic.

During our language time, we worked this week on adjectives. We learn that adjectives are words that describe nouns. We practiced identifying them and adding them to our writing. On Tuesday of this week we read the book My Dog is as Smelly as Dirty Socks by Hanoch Piven. It is a book full of adjectives and analogies. After reading it, it inspired the class to make a page for a class book about themselves. They had to write four analogies about themselves and then find pictures of those items they used to create a self portrait. Check out some of the finished ones below!

In math this week we continued to work on division. We also worked on using clocks as a manipulative to help us when figuring out elapsed time. We also practiced our multiplication skills and began converting units of time. For example: Since there are 60 seconds in 1 minute, how many seconds would there be in 5 minutes.

Side note: Math journals should have come home today. Many students are completely full and others are very close. Most students had another one from the beginning of the year. We will begin using our new math journals when we return in January!
