Reading
Sorting snap words so that we can read words fluently was one skill we worked on. If you can read day, then you can read play, and may!
Buddies
Since we are learning about poetry in writing, we made Acrostic poems with our buddies. An acrostic poem using each letter of a word to describe the word. The buddies used the letters of their name to describe themselves.
Room on the Broom
My favorite Halloween story is Room on the Broom. It has a great message about including everyone and is a rhyming book. We made our own witches and some of the children designed their own brooms!
Math Tubs
Roll and Remove
Cover numbers, roll the dice and add the numbers. Remove the cover on the number. Be the first to get all of your covers off the board!
Addition Splat
Add the numbers on the dice. Splat that number on the board. Be the first person to splat the last number that is left on the board.
One More
Roll the die. Add one more. Find that number on the board and cover it. Be the first to get 4 in a row.
See Saw
Mrs. Sayre introduced us to SeeSaw (again, if you were here last year). The students drew a pumpkin and then wrote the steps to make the pumpkin into a Jack-O-Lantern.
Making a 10
In math, we are always trying to find a 10 before we add. We have been making number bonds when we have an equation like 9 + 6. We take 1 from the 6 and add it to the 9 to make 10. Our new equation is 10 + 5= 15 which is a quicker way to add. Mira is explaining these steps in her equation.
Math Test
Speaking of math...someone spilled coffee all over the math tests...they are dry...someone probably should cut down on the amount of coffee....
Top Dog
Dyllon was our Top Dog. His favorite animal is a lion. He enjoys eating pizza. He is pawsome at baseball and football. When he grows up he wants to be President!
Doggy Bag
1. Library is on Friday. We have several students that have them at home. Your child doesn't have to wait until Friday to return books.
2. Monster Mash is on Tuesday. There is information in the Friday folder.
3. Dojo Sticky notes. As a way for other adults and teachers that pop in our room throughout the day, and to continue to encourage positive behaviors and choices, the students have a sticky note on their desks. Any adult in the room can give a tally mark to reward awesome work. These tallies turn into dojo points midday. Our class point average is going through the roof!
